Preferences -> About | Updates -> Updating tab has all of options to control what can be done. By default it checks for & shows a prompt to update on load when a new version is reported (assuming you're not using one of builds from 2024 that was noted in the known issues as not being able to trigger that there was an update unless there was a crash which could force the update check).
Also since a few months ago there's also a prompt shown whilst it is running if there are any post-release patches available to be applied which also get notified via Preferences -> About | Updates -> About tab. Other than possibly having it show there's a normal update available instead of just the post-release patches if it's a running instance that's been up for a while I don't think there's anything I need to do as it's already implemented.
