I need some help with WACUP
« on: May 08, 2026, 09:01:36 AM »
So I noticed I had an installation of Winamp in C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp
Don't know where that is from as I don't remember installing it... so I uninstalled it and with it all my previously customized WACUP behavior is gone:
1. File Type Associations for audio files and playlists with the selected icons (old Winamp icons)
2. Enqueue files (associated audio files and playlists) when double-clicking them in Windows Explorer, now it just starts a new playlist

I tried reinstalling the latest WACUP and there is no "File Types" under General options.
How can I recover from this?

WACUP hasn't had a file types prefs page per the notes about it not offering file association support during install as part of its preview state but that doesn't prevent things being manually associated to it. If there were customisations for icons, etc then the winamp uninstaller from what you've said has correctly (as an uninstaller should do) removed anything that was associated to it.

I don't know if that folder was a winamp install that you'd then installed wacup over as that was the intent for it to support doing so over prior 5.666 installs & if other wacup customisations are gone then that seems the most likely reason. Unless the settings folder went to the recycle bin (as wacup's one can do) then anything which was in there will also now be permanently gone if winamp's uninstaller was used (as seems the most likely for what was run).

File associations are a registry based thing but you can go to preferences -> general & there are some options to control how wacup responds to external command-line based actions (as a double-click in explorer will trigger) so you can approximate having it follow an 'enqueue' mode.

Thank you for your reply, these options did the trick for my preferred behavior, and as for the audio files and icons association I used FileTypesMan by Nir Sofer (maybe someone finds it helpful).

nirsoft's tool has been recommended a few times now & that's good to know you've got it back to working again.
