That makes sense. All the songs in my collection have embedded or folder artwork associated with them which is why I didn't see a change when disabling this option. Adding artwork is part of the vetting process I go thru before adding songs to my permanent collection. I temporarily removed the embedded image from a mp3 and the image I have selected to be shown when no artwork is available was shown when this option is enabled or disabled. In any case, leaving this option enabled is probably what would be best for me.
By the way, using the Alt+3 editor in WACUP sometimes doesn't embed artwork in my mp3 files. In these cases I use the ALT+3 editor in Winamp supported with thinktink's plug-in (which is the only thing I use Winamp for these days
