(https://orig00.deviantart.net/1f5b/f/2014/109/9/e/w15x15_by_victhor-d7f5sy1.png)Tired of Winamp looking so old and microscopic? Big Bento Modern is a complete re-design of the last Winamp default skin, aiming to be readable -and usable- on high resolutions, with a fresh look and smooth animations.(https://orig00.deviantart.net/1f5b/f/2014/109/9/e/w15x15_by_victhor-d7f5sy1.png)

Years in the making, it's now offered for free, spread the word if you like it and/or donate what you can (with PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=H2NNRMPGKKVDA)) so we can keep our beloved music player really up to date (mods and color themes requests accepted!).

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The skin is launched on 4 languages (english, spanish, french and polish*), if you wish to translate it to your language, just contact me.

Zip file includes standard and a Windows 10 styled version, both with light mode. Just place all folders (don't rename it!) on your Winamp skin's directory. Read the included .txt for extra details on the skin, languages and WACUP related info.

(https://orig00.deviantart.net/319d/f/2014/109/9/c/llama_by_victhor-d7f5s5d.png)* Polish lang pack done and updated by Paweł Porwisz and french by Azuryth, big thanks to both of them!
(https://orig00.deviantart.net/319d/f/2014/109/9/c/llama_by_victhor-d7f5s5d.png)* Also, big thanks to Darren Owen for the shortcuts (to IPC Calls) used on Playlist info buttons.

Skinners note: I'll upload the maki source files later.

Changelog:

1.1.4 (2019-08-16):
Fixed = Visualizer left a few loose pixels when stopped + grid enabled (visible mostly on Win10 version, Spectrum analyzer - Thin bands).
Fixed = Side PL wasn't saving its position / size if Winamp was closed from Shade mode (thanks Scott Arnold!).
Improved = Restored ability to switch elapsed / remaining on small timer.

Damn! I forgot I intended to post v1.0 changelog here. It's not that different from v0.94 but here it goes:

v1.0 changelog:
New = Install / update your language straight from the Skin Settings or Right-click menu.
New = Added Hover image to Frame divider (on main display) so it's easier to differentiate when (and what) is going to be selected.
New = (File info) Cool bg pic for streamings.
New = (File info) Animations on covers.
New = (File info) Added option to hide background.
New = (File info) Added option to scroll text if it doesn't fit.
New = Added Undo message/button after hiding Album art on File info.
New = Old browser replaced with Web Reader.
New = Added option to open links on default browser or in the new and handy Web Reader (internal browser).
New = Added option to use wether Google or Bing as search engines.
New = (Shortcut) "Ctrl.+F" will perform a web search of current track (except if Playlist is visible, where it works as usual).
New = Turned Bolt into Multibutton (Right-click to set).
New = Added active states to Multibuttons (enabled when user selects something different than default).
New = (Visualizer) Added option to show grid (Right-click).
New = Hit F11 to toggle Fullscreen.
New = (Skin settings - Appearance) Enable/Disable new button to show Hidden tabs (when player height is too low).
New = Right-click on Volume button quickly activates / deactivates mute.
New = (Right side Playlist) Right-click on collapse button brings up the album art panel.
New = Fine-tuned existing Bento themes to better fit this skin and added around 20-30 new ones.
Fixed = Notification no longer ignores "Relative to viewport" option on vertical taskbar (thanks Zackbuffo).
Fixed = Snap to edges when the SUI is hidden no longer leaves an "empty" enlarged player.
Fixed = Track info is no longer visible on "Branding view" (big Winamp logo).
Fixed = All internet searches will play well with "&" character.
Fixed = Fullscreen state is saved between sessions (+ a lot of AeroSnap behaviours).
Fixed = (Notifications) Multi-monitor support.
Fixed = (File info) Click to cycle file info.
Fixed = Restored "Link shade and player width" option.
Fixed = Restored "On Titlebar Doubleclick" options.
Fixed = Playlist search bar doesn't deactivate instantly if PL is not visible.
Fixed = Re-enabled "Skin settings" menu entry
Fixed = Re-enabled "EQ" menu entry
Fixed = Gibberish text appearing on Playlist info view (total playlist time)
Changed = (Custom buttons) Quick access option changed to Bookmark Curren Item.
Changed = (Custom buttons) SHOUTcast option has no sub-menu
Changed = (Playlist Info View) Removed PL size (no one noticed it never worked?) and re-arranged buttons (thanks Pawel!)
Changed = Playlist search and Songticker now display centered text. Hard choice, but it looks cleaner for me.
Improved = File info tags has new items: BPM (new) and Publisher (re-added).
Improved = "Album art not found" pics way sharper now across the whole skin (including radio pics).
Improved = Implemented Aero snap fixes by PJN123 (now is possible to move player to another screen with AeroSnap enabled).
Improved = (Custom buttons) Added option (Winamp install folder) + a lot of translation work.
Improved = (Custom buttons) Added option to View Bookmarks (go straight to it).
Improved = (Custom buttons) Translation and general legibility improvements for "Open Folder/URL" dialog.
Improved = (File Info) Hide Cover button now shows on entering the Album cover area.
Improved = Small tweaks to achieve a 100% translatable skin without tweaking images.
Improved = (Notifier) Long strings scroll if not enough space.
Improved = (Web Reader) Loading bar is animated so its functionality is more evident.
Improved = Better differentiation between streaming and generic ("not-found") Album art.
Improved = Changed how legacy Color themes apply to each element (now the effect is closer to original).
Improved = Visualizer finally has all lines of an equal size (it's a bit bigger too).
Improved = EQ presets more spacey now (helps with translation).
Improved = Dark and Light versions of each skin now share files, so the whole thing is lighter now.
+ more gfx fixes and/or improvements

Victhor,
Thank you for your work. Thank you for your passion. Thank you for this amazing skin!
I've already said that, but you can repeat it forever. The skin is just great. Plenty of options, features, amazing graphics, every pixel means something :)

Polish translation works very nice (tested with Winamp). I hope, DrO will work even harder (is this even possible?) to add translation system to WACUP (then translators can start his work to prepare language pack for WACUP - I really hope someone from community will take on this hard task... For sure I will try).

Ps: At times like this, I think to myself I have not wasted my time on supporting Winamp...

Wow! Thanks for your words, I love to see people enjoying my work this much, specially other devs! ;) . I wish I only could be faster to deliver, 2 years is a lot of time (I left it untouched for months at time, but anyway..).

Indeed, luckily by the time this happens it will surely have spanish and polish translators XD .

Ps: At times like this, I think to myself I have not wasted my time on supporting Winamp...

The future of Winamp is on our shoulders now.. can be hard at times. Sometimes there´s a feeling that our work goes for a small handful of people, but from time to time I can see how Winamp is still present on the general internet culture and feel a little bit better.

I've been playing with all of the settings (so many settings!!!)
However, under the settings appearance menu, there is a choice for "Enable Button to show hidden tabs"
I cannot see what that button does or what it changes. What am I missing?

Thanks for this amazing skin. I love the new font and font sizes!

Great update!
However, I'm having two problems:
1. If I pause playback while the notification is visible, the notification won't disappear (and will even pause the fading animation) until I click on it or resume playback. This problem already existed in the previous version. Hoped it would be fixed in 1.0
2. I can't enter the 'search playlist' bar anymore by clicking on it. My current workaround is to right click it, then select an item from the search history and edit it. Pressing esc to exit the search bar won't work either. This issue is new in 1.0

still loving the skin ;)

This enables a button to avoid the need to manually resize the player to reach bottom tabs. See the gif =)

@ParadoXx:
1. Wow! This is on my end too, will fix it.
2. Weird, I changed the behaviour a bit to exchange the Search button for the "Clear search" but the bar is untouched, I can't reproduce it in fact. Do you have a custom font set?

Problem solved. I use the Windows 10 edition. There are some lines in the playlistpro.xml still saying "...file="@SKINSPATH@\Big Bento Modern\...", which doesn't exist anymore.
This also caused an error message on Winamp startup and the disappearence of the search bar after I deleted the old folder.
Renamed the path entries and it works just fine now ;)

Thanks for the info, I was noticed about the nonexistent files asked through another channel, it's fixed now (this is consequence of the last minutes changes of every release..). The notification is a bit trickier so for the time being I've disabled the notification triggered when pausing. Changelog updated.

Thanks for the skin. Already "rocking" here!
But I can only find the skins in the skin browser and not when I use right click->Skins
it does not appear in the list.
And when I switch skins it freezes for a while.
Anyway it's fun to test new skins in 2018

Hugs and keep the good work.

Hi,

Victhor.
First I want to say, this new skin is great!
I am loving it.

Second, you know in the original winamp skin, there is a visualization, the bars or the lines, where the time is displayed in the left top corner. How can I make it in this skin like that? I don't want the big visualization. Just the bars or lines under or close to where the controls are, for pause playing fast forward and all. You know?

I hope you understand what I am asking.

Put your mouse over the bar that is circled and drag it over to the right and the bars that you are looking for will appear.

Congratulations on the final release. Been using this skin for a while and absolutely love it. I even donated!

Looking forward to the WACUP exclusive release victhor!

If I could politely suggest one (very) minor improvement it would be an option to disable the spectrum analyzer being mirrored. I much prefer low frequencies (bass) on the left and high frequencies on the right.

I've just seen your donation! HUGE THANKS! (eventually I'll have to think of a place where to put your name and others who donate).

About the visualizer, sounds like a good idea, I'll have to figure out a mode for a more traditional one like you mention, even if it means a smaller vis. Seems like people look at vis frequencies way more than I do heh, and removing left and right distinction is a bit of a bummer.

And for those of you using the skin, I'd like to know how you're doing with it now that a month has passed. Is it working fine? Does it have all the features you need? Did someone jumped from Big Bento to Modern? (is there anything you miss then?) Is the size good enough, or a bit more would be better?

I love love love this skin. It has completely replaced Bento for me. I am not missing anything.
I specifically use the Windows 10 edition as I like the style.

I have a feature request that may or may not be possible. I wonder if you can make "custom" Tabs on the side.
Example. There is Media Library, Playlist, Visualization, Web Reader, Equalizer, Skin Settings.
I would love to be able to add one of the Smart Views to that side bar or the Downloads view.

Cool, I'm glad you're enjoying the skin so much.
About your request, is not possible to add custom views from the library, Winamp only allows entire components. I can't even duplicate components (ie. another Library to have it set with a specific view).

Thank you victhor, I'm really loving this new skin. Makes Winamp feel like it was released in 2018 :)

Was wondering, is there anyway for the end user to change the browser in Web Reader to something like Chrome for example?

I tried adding Google Play Music as an experiment, but it's not playing audio. So I'm not sure what the web browser included is, is there any possible configuration options to enable for instance javascript?
<sourceitem name="Audio > Google Play Music" comment="Play the Google Play Music of the file playing" url="https://play.google.com/music/listen#/sr/%ARTIST%-%TITLE%" icon="icon.google"/>

Glad you like it scr1m3!
The Web reader uses what Winamp provides as a web browser, basically the Internet Explorer engine (yeah.. that old piece of crap..). I'm not sure if it gets updated with system updates, but IIRC my last tests with Windows 10 improved a lot on how the Web reader performed -maybe it was just luck and it may not be related-, the message "you're using an old browser" dissapeared when using YouTube inside Web Reader.

Let me check that and test with Google play and I'll reply back here again.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: victhor on June 23, 2018, 11:12:20 PM
My internet is wacky today, but it's mostly like you say, Google Play doesn't do well with Web Reader, you can only use it to search for an artist but playing something is not working. In case you wonder, this is the line I used to have the Google play search:

<sourceitem name="Google Play music" comment="Google Play music" url="https://play.google.com/store/search?q=%ARTIST%%AND%c=music" icon="icon.generic"/>

Windows 10 does have a better handling of sites but not on this case specifically (wonder if it's not something of my internet today...).

Not ideal, but the only thing I can think of in your case is to use the "Open in default browser button" (top right corner, next to the Web reader address bar). Also, if you want to totally avoid internet searches to use the Web Reader, you can go to Skin preferences > Web content > Open links in: default browser. Hopefully in a not so faraway future DrO can figure out an option for WACUP to internally use another browser engine =).

Are we sure we want to open that can of worms? I know there are some alternate embeddable browser engines but we start getting into a rabbit hole by trying to use them.

Winamp has historically relied upon the webbrowser control that Windows provides (which is essentially an embeddable IE) as that's almost always present on the machine without having to contend with bundling an installer engine with Winamp (we'd be looking at a hefty install size increase from what I remember of it being looked into a few years back).

Maybe it's something that can be supported depending on what the user installs themselves instead of it being done by default. As I think the OS webbrowser control is fine for basic web aspects (like is done for the podcasts view) but ideally proper content should be viewed in a modern browser but I never really liked browsers embedded in skins, heh.

Yeah... no. What I would prefer is a stable, fully working "link opener", so the potential of web services is not wasted, and Winamp / any skin can attend needs like lyrics and music info without requiring extra plugins or manual edits solutions. But I'm sure the time needed to achieve that is not worth it.
Ironically, on mobile, the tendency seems to be this one precisely, to not take the user out of the app, Gmail, Twitter, Instagram, etc open links "internally", using the system default browser (at least on Android L and O). We're obviously miles away from such integration (in terms of available resource and technology), but I like to mix perspectives XD.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: dro on June 25, 2018, 03:37:18 PM
It depends on the plug-in / aspect of Winamp that's being used as there was an effort to try to use the in-skin browser for things instead of just opening externally (which is then what happens for classic skins). In some ways moving away from having things open in winamp/wacup might be the better approach though if it's a reasonable feature then maybe we can work out a better solution to find a happy middle-ground :)

Hi Victhor!

I just found this skin tonight (randomly checked out DrO's Twitter account and noticed it there) and I'm loving it! It feels very clean.

Till now I haven't really gone searching for skins. Years ago I just set up the Winamp Classic skin the way I liked it and proceeded to get set in my ways. This skin, with a slightly tweaked version of the Winamp Classic colour theme that was included, makes for a perfect replacement!

(http://u.cubeupload.com/OpalMonkey/t/gON44l.png) (https://u.cubeupload.com/OpalMonkey/gON44l.png)

I'm curious, is it possible to adjust the font size in the Media Library/Playlist sections? The current size is perfectly functional and fits lots of information in. Sometimes it would just be nice to bump it up a size so it's a little more comfortable to read.

If I come across any issues or think of any suggestions after using it for awhile, I'll be sure to let you know.

Aside: Seeing as how this is my first post here, I'd just like to give a big thank you to both you, Victhor, for the skin, and DrO for working on WACUP. I remember my brother and sister both using Winamp almost 20 years ago and when I started doing more on computers, Winamp was what I turned to. For the last 15+ years, it's given me everything I've needed for playing and managing my music. Even with trying other media players, nothing works as well or feels as right as Winamp, and it's great to see people keeping it alive. So thank you both (and anyone else doing the same) for that.

Now I'll stop trying to derail the thread :P

Awesome, and thanks for the donation too! I take it like a personal achievement to move people out of the old classic skin XD (joke aside, I like it because it means Winamp can have a whole new meaning for people like you, getting a new way of interact with a player that most people see as already dead -but that can have another "life" this way-).

Totally, that's in Winamp's preferences. See the screenshot for a quick reference (where font is grossly oversized just to show the effect), or try an even faster way by using hotkeys: Ctrl. AND Numpad "+" to increase size font or Numpad "-" to decrease.

If I come across any issues or think of any suggestions after using it for awhile, I'll be sure to let you know.

Please do! For me, support is part of the deal on being an active skinner!

Derail and talk as much as you want, we're happy to see new people here. Specially if they have good taste in media player and skins! =)

Awesome, and thanks for the donation too! Winamp better continue getting new lives! (where's the 1-Up emoji when I need it?) I can't imagine having to move away at this point. So many thousands of hours of music played... I've even made some small custom programs to make things work just how I want (custom controls, songticker, volumeticker, etc.). I'm sure that's kind of the standard for people on these forums, but it's great knowing there are still people keeping it alive.

Totally, that's in Winamp's preferences. See the screenshot for a quick reference (where font is grossly oversized just to show the effect), or try an even faster way by using hotkeys: Ctrl. AND Numpad "+" to increase size font or Numpad "-" to decrease.
Thanks! Just 1px up makes it much more comfortable. And here I was thinking that would be a theme setting. Silly me. Guess it's been too long since I did a proper pass through the settings. I must have been to that page before since the font is set to my usual favourite, but I don't remember it at all.

Derail and talk as much as you want, we're happy to see new people here. Specially if they have good taste in media player and skins! =)
I'm not a frequent poster on forums, but I'm sure I'll be back here to try and derail the odd thread of people with similarly good taste.

Hi everyone, as per some requests, I'm adding an alternative visualization style, changing the horizontally mirrored + duplicated one for a single, (a bit smaller) Visualization like the old one. What do you think would be the better wording here? "Traditional Visualization" / "Old Visualization Style" / "Legacy Visualization Style"? Other?
See GIF for a better idea (and actual implementation):

It is flac, Hi-Res flacs are at 96 or 192 KHz

192 KHz is actually way too much, but I like those huge ... numbers, heh

Any way I can make this skin a little less resource hungry? Or make WACUP itself run smoother?
It really taxes my computer, which is pretty high end for Winamp. Makes everything a little laggy, hangs my mouse every now and then.
But since this is the only skin that works beautiful on 4K monitors, I'm not willing to switch :)
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: Azuryth on September 13, 2018, 09:49:20 PM
Did you check how much resources it is actually using ?

I don't have that kind of problem on an UHD monitor
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: Parshift on September 13, 2018, 09:52:03 PM
I think I assumed it was the skin, as I had read somewhere it might be a little heavy.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: Azuryth on September 13, 2018, 09:57:36 PM
It is using less than 100 mb of ram for me, so if it is really using much resource, there's a problem somewhere (that's why I suggest you to check what it is using in the facts)
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.02
Post by: victhor on September 13, 2018, 10:01:46 PM
..I had read somewhere it might be a little heavy.

Hah I said that, but may not be the case. It works slow for me on my laptop, but hiper fluently on my win 7 desktop pc. So far you're the only one seeing it so slow (and me, but I'm convinced now that my win 10 laptop is at fault.. I know why..).
Anyway, try to disable background cover on File info view, that's a big cover (1000 x 1000 px) changing every now and then and it can be the cause of some slow downs.

The skin is one of the best I ever saw... It is great work. It depends on DrO if he like to make it default.
I have only one issue with the skin - loading time. But, I suppose it can not be fixed - more options, more time to process it - I vote vor more options :P

Looking at it again and perhaps I'm an idiot, but how do I change the Multi-function Button back to opening the media library?  None of the options seem to do it and clicking on one that's already checked just stays checked. Where's the setting stored?

Well, the arrow button on the bottom will open and close it so that's fine.

There is no option to open ML, what you may have hitted was the Open Bookmarks option, which opens the ML straight on the Bookmarks section, UNLESS you just open Winamp and the Library is still unloaded, then it just opens the ML (a second hit then would open bookmarks).
I'm fixing this behaviour for the next release.

Settings are stored on studio.xnf.

I know what happened.  It was initially set to Open About Winamp which opens the Media Library because that's my default action for clicking the Lightning Bolt in the Prefs.  When I set it to that, then it opens the Media Library.

Wacup 2008 and v1.02 of the skin. Think I found a bug when maximizing the skin. The playlist content doesn't move properly. It gets put into the File Info area while the Playlist portion is blank.  I am in Windows 7 Pro, Classic Skin.

Big Bento Modern / Big Bento Modern Windows 10 Edition (1.02)
Winamp opens external browser and built-in browser at the same time.

When I use Help Menu and for example choose option: "Winamp Help F1" Winamp opens
external browser with the following address: https://getwacup.com/community/ -> It is OK (as Skin Settings-> Web Content is set to Open links in default browser).
But, in the same time Web Reader view in skin is opened and I see about:blank in address (it displays album content).

If I use "Send FeedBack" option, Winamp opens external browser and activate Web Browser view with the same content...
It is a bug. I should open external browser or built-in browser (not both!).

When a song is playing if you right click on song ticker select any option View file info/Jump to file/Sent to click and drag the menu option to divider on left or song time display. the entire WACUP closes without saving the current setting. no error is shown. it behave like a normal close but without saving setting. i was not able to reproduce it in Big Bento or Modern skin. happens only with Big Bento modern or Big Bento Modern Light, even the right click on menu option and drag has same effect
This behavior happen often if window size is less than 500Px. when song is playing or paused this will happen 5-7 out of 10 times. but when in stopped mode happens 2-3 times in 10 tries.

Windows: 10 64bit 1803build 17134.285
WACUP: Fresh Clean Install 2800
update using Beta update from About/Update
No skins installed other than Big Bento Modern & Modern light

rightclick to get menu in songticker, click+hold and drag the menu item (File info / Playlist info /Visualization) to time display or on divider between time display and song ticker
it will close the app without saving any settings

Thanks for posting / replying, I get it now. It's a strange thing to do with the mouse (IMHO dragging onto another option of the same menu is more likely), but it's probably fixed on my working build since I changed a bit how those options work, and can't replicate it, no matter what I do.
If anyone can replicate it please report!

Well, that would defeat the purpose of this skin, there is no such version. I'd suggest you to look for cPro skins, which are minimal in space with an arrange of windows similar to this skin (much more flexible actually), here you'll find several (including some I did) >> https://www.deviantart.com/customization/skins/media/winamp/wamodern/popular-all-time/?q=classic+pro&offset=0

PS: WACUP already has support for cPro skins ;)

This skin is really incredible, and has helped me convert from that dreaded iTunes. Since I'm so new to this, I've had a lot of learning experiences along the way. It's incredibly customizing friendly, and I'm having issues with one thing- is there a way to show Title listings in the audio view? Having the breakdown of Band-Album is dope, but breaking it down further to Track listing would be incredible. Might be asking too much here, but don't know until you ask!

Thanks again for making this. It's truly incredible.

Really cool skin! Thank you!

I guess I've found some bugs.
1. I've aktivated Autoplay/Time restore options. If I close Winamp and start it again then the small timers below the big one are gone,
2. I've activated the integrated Waveform Seeker. If I switch to the Windowshade Mode and back then the waveform disappears. But in the options the integrated Waveform Seeker is still active.

Anyway, good work!

(I'm using the latest WACUP 3140)

Good catch, I think I can fix both bugs pretty easily.
Note though that the wording on the option for the Waveform seeker says "Use Integrated...". That's the action, what the option does, enabling will integrate and disabling it will leave waveform seeker on its own window (independently of its visibility). What you mention still shouldn't happen, but I feel I should note it for future readers =) .

Hi, not from the skin's options, but a modded script would achieve the effect. How much you want it? Is it acceptable to have it as a total closure on click but still have the arrow to open it? Or you want it permanently hidden?

I think the arrow to open it is fine, and I think just having an option to hide the icons, like we can chose to hide the text, would be nice.

Something is up because the small numbers don't get the minus sign.
From my tests the small numbers do not change on click, only the big numbers do.

You should probably re-download the skin and remove old folders before placing the new ones, something is wrong because, like Juanus said, small timers don't show Remaining time, only simple-forward time and total time (I've just tested and it's fine). And the notification issue, if it is the one I'm imagining, should be fixed already:

"Fixed = (Notifications) Playing video when "Show album tag" is ON, no longer shows overlapped text."

Where can I re-download the skin?
For now I've deleted everything in
C:\Program Files (x86)\WACUP\Skins
and then re-installed WACUP as full install. Skin properties show BBM version 1.1.3.
But still the same issues.

I've just double-checked from my side & the latest BBM files I was given to ship should be being installed (git vs clean install is showing identical BBM files).

Maybe it's something about the sizing of the window that's still causing the issue? (best I can think off from the partial screenshots)

Nope, re download the skin may be not enough. I don't like to suggest this so often, but deleting studio.xnf should fix it (normally located at c:/users/USERNAME/Appdata/roaming/wacup)

Sorry, I havn't read all of your posts. So I have not known this. 0:-)
Do I have to delete this file every time I install a new WACUP with a new BBM version? If so, maybe dro should add an option to delete this file in the setup (for the beta versions)?

I've deteted this file now.
The notification bug still exists. BUT not with my local tracks. Just with this radio stream:
https://ndr-ndr2-niedersachsen.sslcast.addradio.de/ndr/ndr2/niedersachsen/mp3/128/stream.mp3

The timer bug is still there, too. BUT I've found out that the minus is only missng if I play a track longer than one hour!
So for tracks
< 1h: -0:12:34 (remaining time)
> 1h: 1:12:34 (remaining time)

Nope, only when A SKIN setting gets stuck. Modern skins save their preferences (window position, hidden components, etc) in that file, and sometimes it gets too "dirty". When deleting it, Winamp creates a new one (on closing) with fresh skin settings (your old settings get lost).

... I've found out that the minus is only missng if I play a track longer than one hour!..

THAT'S THE KEY, I'm seeing it now. Will be fixed for the next build!

If I click on the visualization I can just toggle between Spectrum Analyzer modes _OR_ Oscilloscope modes.
If I want to swichtch between Spectrum and Oscilloscope I have to go to Preferences|Skins|Classic Skins|Clasic Visualization and change the settings.

If I click on the visualization I can just toggle between Spectrum Analyzer modes _OR_ Oscilloscope modes.

I noted this, it's not working under WACUP, stopped working a couple of builds back, think I've pointed it out on the Discord server (or not, maybe it was only on my mind hah). What I didn't noticed was that it was linked to the preferences on classic skins =/ .

Activating or deactivating Classic Visualizaion in the right-click context menu dosn't seem to change anything (or I'm too stupid blind ;) ).

Actually, the "modern" visualization is a stereo vis MIRRORED on the right. It should reflect left and right channels but those params are broken on Winamp (never worked actually).
And precisely because those params are broken, some users suggested to use a simple vis (not mirrored), which I did, using a wider/thicker "band", but a slightly shorter total width. All these may not be quite noticeable on high resolutions.. (I can tell the difference in a heart beat, but I'm the author... XD )

Its also going to need a WACUP update to help get the hh:mm:ss case working correctly. As there's a bug in gen_ff where only if the number of hours in the longer format is zero that you see a minus symbol (it counts down correctly but will miss the minus off what's output & isn't something the skin can fix afaik).

What I do need to do is a patch for a non-WACUP install, since the bug will still be present there. I'm not sure I'd be able to do that.. (I can show/hide an isolated minus sign based on a detection of a Winamp/WACUP install, but IDK if I can make it appear ONLY on a >1hr timer..

I like that Wacup has a waveform for the timeline to seek, its much better, sadly I've always found the layout of bento to complete suck, why on earth is there not a skin where the timeline/waveseek covers the entire length of the gui, that way you can stretch it out as much as you want.

Closet I remember wa  MMD3 which was designed this way, and then ofc most the much better cPro skins.. actually really glad cPro is built into Wacup, haven't tested it yet, though I presume the cPro extensions will work aswel right?

Is there any docs on skinning and making your own cPro/Wacup skin? or better yet could anyone implement the waveform seek timeline into the my favourite cPro skin https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/winamp/1640/ imo the most slickest of skins, hard to fault, though the lack of proper media icons would be a one fault.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.13

MMD3 has (almost) side-to-side timeline? (actually called seeker) From memory I would say it covers 70% of the NON-RESIZABLE GUI (unless you're only referring to the cPro version). Compared to that, Big Bento Modern can cover some more I think (see attach). But if you don't like the overall layout then there's no use for that heh.

PS: Yes, cPro extensions are supported, it works just as on the original.

Well I've always considered bento to be pretty ugly in design, but would like to find some way of modding in that wavebar seeker timeline into the cpro insomnis skin, I just need some pointers on where to get started as bento isn't even a cpro skin and I have no idea where to start with skinning winamp.

Kinda wish was a modernized winamp skin system that just use html/css much like electron based apps.. would be great and cross platform, would be a huge boost to a newer skinning system for winamp.. the current xml based one is just so messy and the lack of being able to inspect elements and just do css styling is so much more easier.

There's nothing to stop someone making just that but the issue is more in whether you are then going to have people actually using it. Cross-platform isn't all that helpful unless the base player is able to support it or it's taken on by other players as a more standard skinning solution (which imho is probably not going to happen with the current state of play).

The other approach would be to transpile modern skins into something newer but you're then still in a position of effectively writing 2 skin engines - the new one & one that does the transpiling between what we have now & what is needed for the new solution. Maybe that is a better solution for the long term (as it's a viable thing for Milkdrop / AVS presets) but it's still got to have interest from people to start coding it & the additional is does having an effective browser as the ui make sense (my initial thoughts are marred by the demise of songbird which was doing just that).

Will leave victhor to help with the other part of the post as he knows better about what needs to be considered.

Well maybe it isn't ideal but there is really only 3 reasons I still use Winamp these days.. one is my medialibrary and second is the chapterlist plugin for cpro and I guess 3rd is cpro single gui type skins, trying to make in something similar to all that winamp in that foobar garbage isn't that easy.... both medialibrary and chapterlist have been in use for many years and have so much data on the music I play that its hard to just move to another media player.

Still I've been thinking starting a pet project using javafx or Unity for a crossplatform media player and just re-implementing chapterlist its such a simple extension but so useful for me, and with the direction Unity is going with supporting low end stuff better on mobile and also the Project Tiny, I dunno maybe just make my own is the way to go..at least I could design the frontend the way I always wanted and I never minded a single gui, winamps detachable windows only ever worked for classic skins and I never really cared for it much as I always wanted the medialibrary and playlist in view (playlist also never bothered supporting tabs an inimproved playlist view like aimp or foobar) and then cPro ext and skins worked so well.. but none of these modern skins for winamp were all that friendly for people to make new skins or customize layout...

maki and xml are just not great anymore to use, bit of dying art doing anything for winamp in terms of skinning or even plugins... so yeah glad Wacup exists it will hold me out for a while, plus I'm on win10 and the official winamp is broken with cpro, but for me I see cross platform (linux/android/ windows) being where I'd rather go and have a media player that works across them all and not having to find some inferior one to use.. I'm still so shocked spotifiy media player is so bloody crap and they get shittons of money.. so adding support for that (ie premium account support can use the api to get complete songs) would also be a thing to do (I believe there is already a unity asset supporting that functionality so it would be a good start) .. not even a fan of electron can't stand javascrap over usage in the industry but the chrome dev inspector works so well and css/html element layouts are something anyone could get into making skins for so that's really the only reason I mentioned it, but yeah it wouldn't be easy to support.

I have observed that while using Hindi Unicode language in song title, the upper portion of the song title text is cut in the file info section of the skin. The song ticker shows the song title properly. please see the attached image.  This happens only in file info area. all other places (Playlist & Local library) shows the song title properly.

Similarly the file info artist Unicode text is cut at the bottom edge.

For the reference; the Hindi language have character having  accents below & above standard text size. Attaching another image to show the spacing needed above and below. this image might help in knowing size requirements for line height

edited for Attachment sequence: Unicode _Display shows the file info and song ticker where text is being cut. Unicode_Extends shows the character size requirement ffor reference

Thanks for the heads up, I'm glad to see my skin is being used in Hindi too (and more or less making the cut heh). I'll see what I can do about it since that part of the skin (File info's text lines) is one of the trickiest. Hopefully I'll be able to increase the line height without moving the actual text position too much.

I have just started (okay, maybe a week ago) using WACUP and really like it so far. I also like the looks of the Big Bento Modern skin, but have one problem. On my meager laptop it takes about 25 seconds or so to load the program when using this skin. Other skins (Big Bento regular, or Classic or Modern skin) might take about 9 seconds or so. Is there anything I can do to speed up the loading of this skin? I have tried disabling various plug-ins just in case they were contributing to this. Now granted, my laptop is not the speediest and has some age on it, but it is what I have. Would increasing the RAM help any? It only has 2gb but can be upgraded to 4gb if that helps.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.13
Post by: victhor on May 02, 2019, 11:16:58 PM
@Tom White Hi, I'm glad you liked my skin too. Sadly, there's little I can do to ease the load. Before releasing the skin I've tested it on various PCs (some with similar specs) and load time seems generally ok but is quite heavy on others (a lot, for my taste). Never managed to find out what's causing it exactly.
I wouldn't recommend you to upgrade your memory just for this skin, but 2gb is quite too low for most apps nowadays (9 seconds for the other skins is also a lot!). If you find another reason to upgrade it and the money is there, then go ahead.

In the meantime, you can send me a Private Message and maybe we can work out a quick solution based on the stuff you use/need mostly so I can disable the rest and see if that works, or guide you to know what would be what's taking so much resources of your laptop.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's hitting the swap file on loading if it's taking that long. Am going to guess there's also a standard hard drive in the machine (aka spinning rust) ? Laptop hard drives are notoriously slow which isn't going to help when they're getting thrashed due to the expected memory swapping (ironically I was seeing such things when trying to clean up an ~5 year old laptop yesterday though that was for any software & I'd not given WACUP a go on it due to time pressure).

WACUP does try to change a few things which can help reduce the loading time but a lot of the slowness of modern skins are just down to the inherent design of the modern skin engine & there's a lot to do before I've got something basic that will be able to try to load them that itself doesn't suck. Maybe Vic can come up with something that at least helps out a bit but without lobotomising the skin, I'm not sure there's much that can otherwise be done sadly in your current position.

-dro

p.s. How long does it take for it to load with a classic skin ?
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.13
Post by: Tom White on May 03, 2019, 01:28:52 PM
Thanks to both of you for your responses. A bit more information about the laptop - It has a 1.6ghz intel celeron processor and , the drive is not a "spinner", but rather one of the small drives that most laptops come with these days. Can't think of exactly what they call them these days but I think SSD comes to mind?

Anyway, with the Classic skin, it loads in about 4 seconds. When playing music, task manager shows WACUP barely using any CPU or memory resources. With that in mind, I have to think it is not "stressing" the CPU or RAM but rather is taxing the machines graphics capabilities? I guess another thing to consider is my music (a bit more than 5000 songs, split between FLAC and MP3) is stored on a USB 3 thumb drive. Once loaded the music is accessed very quickly so I don't think the program is waiting on that.

Anyway, thanks again for the work you guys do on all of this.
Title: Re: Big Bento Modern - final release v1.13
Post by: dro on May 03, 2019, 01:44:21 PM
Ok well if it is an SSD then I'd have expected the classic skin to load quicker than that. Can I ask what age the machine is as SSDs in laptops still aren't a common thing (at least not for what I was looking at over the past year especially when you drop down to the Celeron ranges unless it's been an option &/or changed later on).

There's so many variabes as to what could be going on from A/V software being slow to scan & allow things to go to just something about the machine really not liking things (it happens) through to the network connection being slow for the initial update check (though I've tried to mitigate against that due to delaying when it's done by default so that's probably less likely to be it).

Bit of a head scratcher though not helped that the modern skin engine has always liked fast speedy setups as it does a lot of things in order instead of asynchronously which if there are slowness can make the skin take a lot longer to load than would be liked.

Had a quick look online, it seems that your laptops has 32GB of eMMC storage. It has 1 SODIMM slot that takes up to 4GB DDR3L.

I would strongly recommend upgrading the RAM to the 4GB.

You could also look into ways of disabling unnecessary Windows features. You can look here for some tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVy4GAtkh7Q

The issue as other have mentioned is that Windows will be swapping memory to disk, which will hurt performance. It doesn't have sufficient memory to store the OS as well as the applications you might want to run such as WACUP or a web browser.

Thanks for your reply. This laptop may be a bit under powered, but no other program I use operates as slowly as Winamp/Wacup using the modern Bento skin. The regular skins do fine, browsers are quick as are programs like LibreOffice, so I don't know what to say.

In the end it is all OK. I have no problems with using the classic or Big Bento or older Winamp Modern skins. Not losing any sleep over it.

Thanks again.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I love the skin with one simple caveat:
I really wish the "Collapse Window" toggle was a lot wider and a little thinner, something like 80% of the width of the window at any given time. I'm trying to avoid having to move my mouse all the way to a very specific, pretty small, location on my monitor when i want to toggle

From what I can gather by looking at the skin files, it's all loading from the various xml files, so I was wondering if someone could point me to correct file/location (or even the variable / element / etc. name) that I should be looking for to go about making this change. I would very much appreciate any help.

I attached a mock-up of what I'm trying to achieve.

Okay, so update:
I've found that it's a matter of editing the width (w) value of the button element at the bottom of player-normal.xml.

The only issues are:
 - no idea how to make it relative / scale in real time w/ the window width
 - it seems the arrow image is not independent from the width of the button. so it's scaling with my edit and looks about as awful as you'd expect.

I'll keep experimenting.

----

Okay, scratch that. I'm apparently only scaling the visual portion. The clickable element is staying the same size. Hmmm...

Why don't you change the setting so that the WHOLE title bar becomes the button and you can doubleclick on the title bar to make it collapse?

Because that's not the same functionality at all. That toggles the "shade", not the "collapsed window".

would it be satisfactory for that whole bottom title bar to become a doubleclick area. That way it would mimic the top title bar?

The skins is really nice, but is there is a way to make time and artist/song font smaller (white and the orange in attachment)?
thanks in advance!

Glad you like it! Winamp has some options precisely for this;
- Go to Preferences > Modern skin > Font rendering tab and play with the items as seen on the screenshot attached.

NOTE: If you want to use the same skin font, go to the skin's folder / fonts and install the Oxygen ones before doing all the above.

Thanks for this, I love the skin. My new Default :D

My only request would be to somehow integrate some graphical speakers on either side to make it look cool ;)

Default notification size (max size) is 695 x 150
In my opinion is better smaller for example 500 x 125

What you think Victhor and other guys?

so i have attached the font for all
to use you can use the skin font mapper
or if know deeper can add it there

Thanks Rob!

@zag2me: Adding that officially would go against the spirit of the skin heh (extended functionality, fewer distracting elements), but soon I'll publish a way for users to get customization on my skins.

@Dime Notifications size is aimed to high-res screens, size is obviously arguable I guess, but you're the first pointing such thing, so I should point you to the last part of what I said to zag2me, customization is on its way ;)

Main post updated to include v1.1.4, which was shipped with WACUP some weeks ago (though I had it ready some months before).
