General Discussion / Winamp Info Tool updated
« on: June 27, 2025, 04:16:00 AM »
Version 6.3.2.6480 has been released. It recognizes some of the changes introduced by WACUP and is useful for documenting most of your WACUP configuration. It misses a few things, like the location of MilkDrop presets and the names of some plug-ins. If you have an older version installed, you can use it to get the update.

Resolved Issues / Re: CPro MMD3 won't load

In beta build #21962 (x86), the listing of cPro skins (in the main context menu sub-menu) is now working as expected whether that skin - manager settings preferences option is enabled or not. I had enabled that option because I wanted to use it's sub-option to not show empty/invalid skins. Thank you for the fix.

Yes, you are correct. The ClassicPro.xml file supports a feature (custom beat vis) that the cPro_Insomnis skin does not have. So I when back to the original archive file.

The real reason the skin wasn't listed in the cPro group was that option in the skin - manager settings preferences.

Having "cpro" or "cpro2" at the start of the filename is what I'm looking for since that seemed to be what they were all doing (dunno about ones that came from other sites / hosting vs skinconsortium) whereas any pre-extracted ones don't matter since the handling is looking for a ClassicPro.xml file within the skin folder.

The filename doesn't start with a space. So you don't need to add anything to look for one. But I guess it won't hurt. I tried replacing the hyphen with an underscore and nothing changed.

I re-read the reply quoted above and even though the skin isn't pre-extracted, I decided to look for a ClassicPro.xml file in the skin's archive file. The cPro_MMD.wal had one and the cPro_Insomnis.wal didn't. I copied the file to the cPro_Insomnis.wal file and now it is listed in the cPro group.

Hi dro,

Sorry I missed your related reply back in January. I need to use the site's search feature more. Good to know something similar is on your todo list.

The file was named "cPro - Insomnis.wal". I deleted the spaces in the filename and in the studio.xnf values. The skin is still listed with the modern skins. Maybe the code doesn't like the hyphen. The other skin is named "cPro_MMD.wal".

One last thing. The code in WACUP that lists skins in 3 groups; classic, modern and cPro does put cPro MMD in the cPro group. But I have another cPro skin called cPro Insomnis v1.03 by Zarko Jovic that is listed with my modern skins. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to get it listed properly.

The JVC Tape modern skin has a dual cassette deck window. While the cassettes appear to always rotate at a constant speed, the slow transfer of tape from the supply reels to the take-up reels is always completed by the time the playing song ends (no matter the various lengths of songs).

I'm asking if something similar can be done for auto-scrolling of lyrics within the gen_lyrics plug-in. Not looking for the sync of lyrics to the singing, just want a relatively slow scroll to eliminate the need for manual scrolling when the lyrics don't fit in the window being used to display them.

The cPro MMD skin loads and works fine for me with dev build 21946 (x86). It refused to load and caused issues with prior WACUP builds, so I didn't try to use it. I don't particularly care for SUI skins, so it wasn't a problem for me. Never the less, I'm glad it is no longer being blocked.

There is another modern skin called MMD3 developed by Sven Kistner that looks very similar to this skin. It has always worked with WACUP. It is easy to confuse these skins for each other.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: Full File Buffering
« on: June 18, 2025, 05:22:51 PM »
... From vague memories about it, in_mp3 was setup to just go from a working buffer so it could read everything in at once & work from there whereas I know most of my plug-ins aren't coded to work in such a manner vs the libraries being used to implement playback.

Too bad this is more complicated than I was hoping it would be. Working with a file's virtual in-memory copy seemed like it would be a straight forward thing to do, from a layman's point of view.

No worries. Now that I have WACUP and my audio files on a ssd, I don't have any stuttering with any of my file formats. I was thinking this may help others that still use mechanical hard drives with stuttering during playback.

Hi dro,

As you see, you never responded to this request. Since I mostly play mp3s, I forgot I made it. Our recent discussion about in_mp3.dll's full file buffering feature caused me to remember it. So, what do you think? Can full file buffering be added for all supported formats?

Hi MarkRH,

Thank you for your investigation. It would be strange if the default length is zero. But that would not be the only strange thing that Winamp did.   :)

I wonder what could have been randomly changing those values in my configuration with previous builds. Whatever it was seems to have stopped in the current dev build 21890 (x86).

So far with dev build v1.9.33.21890 (x86), the size and position I have selected for the WACUP preferences window is maintained.

General Discussion / Size and position of WACUP preferences window

Where is the size and position of the WACUP preferences window kept? From time to time the size and position I selected for this window is not maintained when I reopen the window.

I have always wondered about the wording of the "Do not abort fadeout when closing" option. It is enabled by default. Should it be disabled to abort fadeout when closing. I always stop playback before closing WACUP/Winamp, so in my case I figured enabled or disabled didn't matter.
