General Discussion / WACUP Installer issue
« on: July 22, 2025, 08:29:43 PM »
Sometimes, the WACUP installer for the last few releases has been changing the app's internal volume level. Sometimes the change was small (barely noticeable) and sometimes it was large (zero volume output). The installer for Build #22222 (x86) made a small change in my configuration's value.

General Discussion / WACUP Modes
« on: July 19, 2025, 12:06:28 PM »
Hi dro,

From looking in my start menu, I see there are now 2 ways to launch WACUP. A WACUP (Winamp Compatibility Mode) (32 bit) process and a WACUP (32 bit) process. What is the difference between them? They both appear to look and work the same way on the surface.

General Discussion / Winamp Info Tool updated
« on: June 27, 2025, 04:16:00 AM »
Version 6.3.2.6480 has been released. It recognizes some of the changes introduced by WACUP and is useful for documenting most of your WACUP configuration. It misses a few things, like the location of MilkDrop presets and the names of some plug-ins. If you have an older version installed, you can use it to get the update.

The JVC Tape modern skin has a dual cassette deck window. While the cassettes appear to always rotate at a constant speed, the slow transfer of tape from the supply reels to the take-up reels is always completed by the time the playing song ends (no matter the various lengths of songs).

I'm asking if something similar can be done for auto-scrolling of lyrics within the gen_lyrics plug-in. Not looking for the sync of lyrics to the singing, just want a relatively slow scroll to eliminate the need for manual scrolling when the lyrics don't fit in the window being used to display them.

General Discussion / Size and position of WACUP preferences window
« on: June 05, 2025, 09:06:29 PM »
Where is the size and position of the WACUP preferences window kept? From time to time the size and position I selected for this window is not maintained when I reopen the window.

Hi dro,

Can you add protection against accidental click & drag movement of modern skin windows like you did for classic skin windows?

General Discussion / Question about winamp.ini file
« on: May 28, 2025, 05:11:16 AM »
Hi dro,

I have been using WACUP since 2017. I have sections in my winamp.ini file for plug-ins I no longer use and have deleted or disabled loading. There are also sections for plug-ins I've never used and have disabled loading. Some of these sections have several lines. Should I delete these sections to prevent wasting caching space on unnecessary stuff?

I have noticed that the [Winamp] section has grown quite large. I'm starting to wonder if everything in it is still necessary and if one or more old obscure setting is contributing to issues you have not been able to replicate.

Unlike the studio.xnf file, I know of no easy and safe way to purge the winamp.ini file and let it be rebuilt with just stuff necessary for a particular configuration.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Options for the Lyrics Plug-in
« on: March 25, 2025, 08:11:32 AM »
Hi dro,

As you know your lyrics plug-in (gen_lyrics.dll) creates text files for every song file that is played. These text files contain the song lyrics if lyrics are found online and are zero length files if no lyrics are found. Can you add to this plug-in's configuration options, an option to not create a text file if no lyrics are found? Can you also add an option to not create text files, even if lyrics are found?

Also, these files are given alpha-numeric names that have no clear relationship to the songs. Can you include the metadata %title% in the text file name or include the %title% on a separate line at the top of the included text when lyrics are found? If the song file doesn't contain the %title% metadata, then the file name could be used.

General Discussion / Pop-up Notification Window for Classic Skins
« on: June 17, 2024, 02:49:42 PM »
I like small pop-up notification windows that display info related to the item currently playing in WACUP. They are also useful when WACUP is minimized or behind other apps on my desktop. After much testing, I have found one that works very well with the modern skins I use. It displays the item's albumart along with other related info (artist, title, album, etc.). It is easy and simple to configure.

I'm now looking for something similar to use with classic skins. I've been experimenting with the old toaster plug-in developed for Winamp. It's configuration dialog is not very intuitive and sometimes settings are not retained between sessions. Can anyone reading this post suggest something else I could possible use?

How do I control the foreground and background colors used by the Waveform Seeker plug-in when used with classic and modern skins?

Wishlist / Feature Requests / ML History View Column Heading Change
« on: March 07, 2024, 04:03:06 PM »
The column currently named "Title" in the history view doesn't display the file's title. It displays the playlist editor's string for the file that was played. I suggest the column's heading be changed to correctly indicate what is being displayed (or change the column's content to match it's heading).

Wishlist / Feature Requests / List of Loaded Plug-ins
« on: January 26, 2024, 07:18:05 PM »
Hi dro,

Currently it is fairly easy to determine what plug-ins are in a WACUP configuration, via the advanced diagnostics provided. The default and enabled plug-ins are loaded as needed. The running statistics on the WACUP preferences about tab list the number of currently loaded plug-ins. How about including a drop down list of what they are. I can probably correctly guess what they are and most users probably don't care, as long as WACUP works as needed, but it would be nice not to have to guess.

Skins / wasabi.list.text.selected.background.inactive
« on: January 25, 2024, 04:25:22 AM »
Split from Ariszló’s Study Skin released.

All 22 modern skins in my collection load just fine with WACUP beta version 18106. I have had lockups and 2 crashes after normal playback for at least an hour that seem to be related to media library database issues, but dro doesn't know for sure yet.

I'm assuming they all do, but how do I check if they have a colour definition for wasabi.list.text.selected.background.inactive?

General Discussion / Does WACUP support dithering?
« on: October 14, 2023, 05:44:17 AM »
Hi dro,

Winamp has, and early beta versions of WACUP had, a preferences option to enable or disable dithering in the playback group of options. This option in WACUP was removed several beta versions ago. I see that the recent out_neo.dll plug-in lists a dither filter in it's list of processing filters. If WACUP does support dithering via this plug-in, do you plan on providing a way to disable it?

I've read that dithering is the process of adding a small amount of random noise to a digital audio signal in order to reduce the distortion caused by quantization error. This technique is crucial for maintaining audio quality during the conversion process from analog to digital, and it can greatly improve the overall sound of a digital recording.

I don't know what kind of dithering (if any) was used by the encoders used to make my mp3s. I also don't know what the dither filter in out_neo.dll does. I don't think there is any significant distortion in my mp3s, but being able to disable the dither filter in out_neo.dll will let me tell if I can hear any difference with it enabled or disabled (and which sounds better).
