Title: Issues playing Hi-Res WAV
Post by: thisisbbc on July 08, 2024, 05:07:40 PM
Howdy,

My friend was recording an event straight from a mixer and saved the show as Hi-Res WAV (32Bits 96kHz). He made a little mistake by merging the left and right channels so the file is in mono, but this shouldn't really be an issue.

When I tried to play the file in Wacup, the sound was distorted and had a lot of clipping. He was a little panicked at first thinking the entire recording was messed up. I then tried to play the same file in Winamp and the sound was in fact ok and played well.

I'm a bit confused as to what's happening here since I use the same output plugin in Winamp and Wacup (AudioBurst FX). They also both share the same settings. Here's the resampler settings (both identical in Wacup and Winamp):

I have also noticed that the Spectrum Analyzer shows a much more satured waveform in Wacup compared to Winamp as illustrated below:

Note that this is the exact same file playing, locally (not on my NAS).

Any idea what's going on here?

Thanks!

Edit: Tested with other output plugins Not So Direct and Not So YASAPI, same result.

Try Preferences -> Plug-ins -> Input -> WAV -> check the option at the bottom of that to see if it helps.

Looks like it did the trick! File is playing normally now.

Thanks for pointing out this option :-)
