Latest WACUP public preview for x86 & x64 is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)
Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #20686 (December 23rd 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

General Discussion / Re: Files associations

Hi Ysl,

Your first post in this thread was answered by dro, the developer. As you see, even with all he does by himself, he does take time to respond to those who take the time to post stuff.

It looks like you are using the Big Bento Modern or Big Bento Modern Windows 10 edition modern skin. When I point to the pause button on the versions I have, I get a tooltip that says if I right-click then the playing item will restart (which does just that for me). Maybe you are not using the latest version of these skins. I have version 1.2.3 of both.

What you see in the top left corner of the pop-up notifier (in your screenshot) is the playlist order number of the playing item followed by the total number of items in the playlist. I'm not saying that some way to provide the order number of an album item followed by the total number of album items should not be provided. I'm just saying it may not be a simple thing to do.

General Discussion / Pop-up Notification Window for Classic Skins
« on: June 17, 2024, 02:49:42 PM »
I like small pop-up notification windows that display info related to the item currently playing in WACUP. They are also useful when WACUP is minimized or behind other apps on my desktop. After much testing, I have found one that works very well with the modern skins I use. It displays the item's albumart along with other related info (artist, title, album, etc.). It is easy and simple to configure.

I'm now looking for something similar to use with classic skins. I've been experimenting with the old toaster plug-in developed for Winamp. It's configuration dialog is not very intuitive and sometimes settings are not retained between sessions. Can anyone reading this post suggest something else I could possible use?

"1- In the Multi Content View, I would like to see track number AND total track (of album or playlist) like 4/12 instead of 4"

This one should be easy to implement...I'm I right ?

Well it is not as simple as one may think. This idea has been discussed on the forum before. You can use the forum's search feature to look for the related posts or wait to see if dro will take time out to provide his thoughts on the matter. He is doing all the development work on WACUP by himself and a lot of the webmaster stuff for this forum as well, so it may take him a little while to get to you.

One thing to think about is that many songs are released as stand-alone items (which is not a new thing). They may take a while or never get added with other songs on an album. Another thing, is how to best handle things technically. A single x/y data entry or 2 separate x and y entries.

What I am looking for is an easy way to find the cover of a song TO DOWNLOAD it and then add it the the .mp3 file...

That is mainly what I use the skin that I suggested for. I let the skin start the google search for the album or artist, then I select "images" at the top of the returned page. This shows me multiple images that I can then right-click on and download whichever one I want to my computer. I then use MP3tag (there are many other apps that can be used) to embed the downloaded image file in the mp3 file I want it in.

MP3tag can also play the music file, search for and show you various images that you can select from to embed, which I suppose is the easiest and fastest thing to do. But I like to use WACUP to play my music files and the steps I outlined above are easy enough for me to do while listening to my music.

For variety, I often use different images for songs from the same album to keep from having multiple files with the same image.

If I left click, it just Play/Pause, no restart... If I right click, the cover art reload and I have a 1/4 second sound interruption.
Did not find a way to restart the song....

What skin are you using, that combines the play and pause functions? All the classic and modern skins I use, work as I stated. When I left-click the play button (not the pause button) in their main player window, playback starts over. If I right-click it, I get a sub-menu that lets me select other commands.

If the default functions of the main player window's play button have been changed in your configuration, the fastest way to get them back is to do a clean reinstall of the app.

2- When left clicking on the Cover art area, left to the Multi Content View, I would like my browser to open Google IMAGE with Artist and title tags as search text (for single (not album) cover search)

...

I use a modern skin called "Defix Hi-End" (it is attached below). It can be configured to display the playing track's albumart in it's playlist editor window (select the skin settings command in WACUP's main right-click menu). When you right-click on the image you get a pop-up that lets you start a google album art search in your default browser.

If you have entered the corresponding metadata in the playing track's media library record, when you left-click on the headings (title, artist or album) to the right of the albumart image it starts a google search in your default browser for the data listed.

3- An easy way to re-start a track at 0:00 when playing a track, especially difficult (with the mouse) when it play the first seconds of the track. One way could be the possibility to configure the "Previous Track" button (which I never use) as "start the track at the beginning.

..
Just click the play button again to restart a track.

I use an old app "MusicIP Mixer", that was last updated in 2008 (https://musicip-mixer.software.informer.com/). It appears to no longer be supported, but it still works and does a good job creating playlists. It takes a long time to create 'acoustic fingerprints' for each audio file, since it's online database is no longer available. It's power tools feature is also no longer working.

Once created, it then uses the acoustic fingerprints and selectable metadata tag filters to create dynamic and interesting playlists. IMO, it does a better job than what Winamp had.

Skins / Re: Defix - Yukon
« on: May 27, 2024, 08:53:36 PM »
Hi Denis,

I hope you're doing well. I'm enjoying using your Defix - Yukon skin. I prefer it over the Bento skins provided with the WACUP installer.

Ariszlo (a skin developer who frequents this forum) has developed maki scripts that provide a 'fix' for the rounding error with the Winamp/WACUP timing calculations code that causes the sum of the displayed remaining + elapsed playback time to be 1 second less than the playlist item's total playback time. These scripts can be used as work-arounds until such time when dro is able to introduce a proper fix to WACUP. I think I can use the 'fix' for Defix - Yukon's Big Clock mini component, but I need the source files for your related scripts.

Thank you, if you can provide them. PM them to me if you want, no worries if you prefer to keep them private.

Hi dro,

Have you decided on when you will start the Windows 11 compatibility testing?

I'm having similar issues reported by AeonicB when trying to use the MMD3 skin. I will wait for your answer before providing my details, since what you may discover with the compatibility testing may make them unnecessary. Whatever this turns out to be may also be involved with my preferences dialog corruption issue (the ignored font and broken width calculations part).

Hi arealhuman,

Get MediaInfo from here (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo). It is a small app that lets you see what is in your audio and video media files (container: format, profile, codec used, ...).

The DirectShow plug-in should have been in the WACUP installer. If it is not listed in the WACUP Preferences Plug-ins section, then rerun the installer in manual mode and look thru the options.

Skins / Re: Waveform Seeker Plug-in colors
« on: May 20, 2024, 05:35:20 PM »
@ariszlo & dro,

Thank you guys very much. The default colors applied to the plug-in by some of the skins I use either don't provide enough foreground to background contrast, or conflict with the main color of the skin, imo. I've been looking for this info for quite a while. I should have asked the question a long time ago.

Hi Darkhell,

JFI, I'm using the same OS files as you except my OS Build is 22631.3447. Anyway the OS has nothing to do with the bug. Dro has explained why I didn't replicate the issue. I'm glad you found that needle in the haystack.  :)

Observations like yours are making WACUP more and more robust.

So it is a real bug in the code. I assume selecting one or both of the "Ignore the information WACUP provides ..." and "Do not show empty / invalid skins ..." options protects me from the error.

Check the preferences - advanced - options page 2 tab. If the "Only show genres from the genres.txt ..." option is enabled, try disabling it.
