Reordering custom playlists in Media Library
« on: November 23, 2021, 10:51:13 PM »
This is a minor thing, but in Media Library under Playlists, when you create custom playlists they are placed in the list one after another in the order you created them and there is currently (as best as I can tell) no way to change the order. It would be great if it were possible to reorder them by dragging and dropping them.

I'm able to change the sort order of the playlist view by clicking on the column headings. Drag and drop would probably conflict with this current way of sorting.

If there would be conflict, personally, I'd prefer the drag and drop option over sorting by heading, but (at least in concept) there needn't necessarily be conflict - drag and drop reordering could be a separate, custom order, that would get changed if you clicked on a heading (same as if you go from sorting by heading 1 to sorting by heading 2).

Now, that's in concept, I don't know how easy or difficult that would be to actually execute in code.

It is possible to change the order by clicking on the root view headers but specific re-ordering is something I'd need to look into as currently drag+drop is setup to interact with the existing playlists instead of allowing for moving.

Just wanted to chime in that I'm also hoping for this feature to be added.

I just recently switched from Winamp to Wacup and I regularly create playlists that I'm re-ordering manually.

From the left pane in the ML, it seems I'm only able to nudge the playlist up or down one position, but it's a but finicky and tedious with dozens of playlists.

If I use the main Playlist window, it seems Wacup wants to add the entire playlist to another playlist when we drag-and-drop. Cool feature but I'd rather be able to reposition the lists.

Hope this can be considered :-)

It shouldn't be possible to nudge the playlist position in the builds & isn't something I can currently replicate so not sure how you're managing to do that tbh.

As for the re-ordering request, it's a two fold thing as there needs to be the in-view handling & also the navigation tree handling (for those who've enabled the playlists showing as child nodes). The child node aspect is also something needed for re-ordering of the local library views & that's something I'm currently looking into since it'll benefit both of the plug-ins & remove 2 todo items from my never-ending list.

For the playlists in-view handling, I'm still uncertain on the best way to do that & currently it'd either need a modifier (e.g. shift / control) when using the drag action or trying to determine where the drop point is & adjusting based on that (e.g. just the top / bottom edge of the item vs the rest being ok for the current behaviour) or by adding a prefs option to control what the drag+drop behaviour is or a combination of the 2 ideas so the action inverts depending on the prefs vs modifier being used is set to be.

Thanks for the quick reply Dro! Didn't expect that haha :-)

Here's a little screen capture of me trying to move around the playlists from the navigation tree handling (I did enable playlists child nodes as it's the default in Winamp AFAIK). As you can see it's very hit-or-miss and sometimes the playlist moves in a totally different place.

I don't really mind not having the ability to move the playlists in the in-view pane as it also looks like it's going to be a more complex issue. As long as the order we set in the navigation tree is reflected in the in-view pane, this wouldn't bother me.

Appreciate all that you're doing!

Cheers :-)

That's good to know it's working ok. Will move this into the implemented request sub-forum.

I've still got re-ordering of the bookmark categories to do but that's out of the scope for this request (which did also catch allowing the local library sub-views to be re-ordered as well).
