BUT if you enabled the autotag button to do musicbrainz lookups, that would be a start

For that we basically need a consistent metadata handling implementation which allows for reading / writing musicbrainz ids (that's not the current case with the native input plug-ins). It'd also (for what I've thought about it so far) need work done on the local library handling so it can cope with musicbrainz ids and anything else that might be needed. So for that I've got some ideas already as it always seemed like something that more would benefit from.

I have been typing in tracks for 3 years now and make my ripping much slower now. Any progress for a replacement for Gracenotes in the near future?

I'm somewhat torn when it comes to this as currently I don't have a CD/DVD drive connected to my development machine. That happened when I moved to Win10 & came down to whether I disconnect it or keep my prior Win7 SSD connected (which I went with). Unless I can work out why the 7th & 8th SATA ports on the motherboard won't work with the SATA DVD I've got (as the other 6 SATA ports have SSDs & HDDs connected to them which I need). I guess I could just swap out the Win7 / DVD drive as needed but that's a hassle due to the nature of the 2008 era PC case I'm using

However I've been aware ever since the Gracenote access ended in May 2014 that there is still some demand for a working CD info look-up option within Winamp when it's used to rip though I don't know now whether there's enough demand for such support to be re-implemented. As anything I can do wouldn't be able to use Gracenote (they only want to deal with those who can pay to use them it seems and as donations since starting WACUP have maybe just covered site hosting costs, Gracenote is a no go option).

I had looked at using Musicbrainz before being taken off Winamp whilst with the company that shall not be named but I cannot find my notes on that at the moment as to whether it could still be a good option. As I'm not sure if

Anyway, the tl;dr answer is if there's enough demand (& incentives) then I can be open to looking into working on a replacement to re-enable the support within WACUP based installs. As I'd also have to look into replacing the existing in_cdda.dll plug-in so that CD-Text could be accessed along with removing one of the main reasons for having the old Sonic engine installed.

Hi, have you tried www.mp3tag.de/ ?  I'm using it since Gracenote stopped working in Winamp.

I know mp3tag can do certain lookups but I thought it can only work on files that have already been created and not at the pre-created stage. Without a connected CD / DVD drive it's likely I'm missing something (not that I found it much of a hassle to edit the tags in Winamp at the time as I generally found the Gracenote information to not be 100% correct vs the CD's info cards).

Tbh it's all a bit too 'modern' for my liking as I much prefer the history of the 1500's (i.e. up to the end of the reign of Elizabeth I in 1603) and earlier though I can appreciate the more modern aspects. But then the history I've been made aware off isn't always seen / remembered in the same manner depending on the country it relates to.

As 'English Separatists' isn't the phrase that I was every taught and to me it was a mix of people of different backgrounds & reasons to want to make a new life (not taking into account migrants from other European countries at the times) as well as a proportion of those who where being persecuted on religious grounds (as things had been mess for around 80 years by the 1620's due to flip-flopping between being Protestant & Catholic depending on which King & Queen was on the throne).

For me growing up, it was primarily Romans, Normans (1066), Tudors & Stuarts (1485 to early 1700s) & the World Wars that were taught during history lessons (and things relating to the local area I grew up in). Anything else I've picked up on has mainly been from learning myself (TV, radio, books & going to places). Whereas I'm sure that US education probably wouldn't cover any of that other than what overlaps from the birth of the country which overlaps with the Stuarts for us.

Not that I've ever been aware off (an equivalent that is) and most of the days we get off in the UK (not that it matters to me being self-employed) tend to have historical reasons going much further back than even the initial european colonisation of the americas either on country specific stuff or from religious based festivals.

Though I'd assume that other countries must have equivalents in terms of being founded / freedom of the country (if I weren't being lazy I'd do a quick search myself ).

I thought Independence Day was more about the colonial separation process (even if we did then go back a bit later and trash the White House which I didn't know about until a year or so ago) rather than Thanksgiving (which I can picture is the camp & play from one of the The Addams Family movies).

Depending on browser caching (which is why it took a while for me to see the issue ) and all that fun, the correct images on the buttons should now start to begin showing.

I've ended up adopting suggestion #1 from [member=6]QOAL[/member] as the alternative aliases which were being used in the custom copy of the fontawesome css are there to map things from the SMF forum values to the desired FA icon (so it was relevant as the hint helped me to work out why I couldn't find what I was looking for between the aliases and the theme's code ).

And as it's just the CSS that needs to be tweaked I can still leverage the CDN cache for the font files, etc whilst maintaining a locally provided CSS file (which should be CDN backed anyway from using Cloudflare to handle things).

Hi, I've not done anything towards replacement input plug-ins with WACUP other than a re-worked line-in plug-in to provide something better than the native plug-in (as covered within the changelogs for the initial beta builds provided so far).

So playback and what can / cannot be done currently should be no different from what the v5.666 release was able to do. Never having mentioned anything about such things in the changelogs / site information, I'm hoping I've not given the false impression that such a thing was within the scope of WACUP.

As even adding it natively within Winamp itself (which I cannot do) brings with it more compatibility issues (especially if going for floating point handling) than the addition of 24-bit integer support brought in combination with the existing plug-ins that exist out there that people use (as getting a pure 24-bit integer playback chain from input to dsp to output is hard enough as it currently stands).


All of that means end-to-end 32-bit floating point playback support to my knowledge is just not possible to be added in as part of WACUP with how Winamp works (which assumes either 16-bit (by default) or 24-bit integer input formats.

The best that could be done is to just have the respective input plug-ins being used (whether directly by the input plug-in itself or indirectly by a resampler sitting in front of the input plug-in due to not having native support to do the) converting down to 24-bit fixed at most (if that option is enabled) and then hoping that the output plug-in as well as any dsp plug-ins being used (if that's the case) also support 24-bit audio data (which for almost every DSP plug-in created is not the case).


I'll move this thread into the wishlist section but realistically unless I ended up creating an end-to-end replacement of the playback core, WACUP at most is just going to see work done to re-sample the audio from input plug-ins into either of the supported formats that Winamp's playback core supports depending on how it's been configured by the user.

I do appreciate that there are audio formats that can support the higher bit count / type formats (primarily if that's how it's created from the start) but for the likes of MP3, video game music and other common formats (or just what people have got already in their libraries), there's little, if any benefit to such support when the audio data itself is only 16-bit or even lower (e.g. 8-bit as can be the case with video game music which is an area I'm personally interested by). Plus the less work that is done on the audio from input to output the better imho even if that means the output plug-in / Windows doing just a one-off resampling to the required output format whilst keeping the rest of the chain 16-bit (if that all makes sense).

For WACUP it's best to install it into a separate folder for the time being as there's still work that needs to be done to ensure that installing over an existing Winamp install will work ok.

Tbh looking at some of those old plug-ins reminds me of when skin & plug-in reviews were a commonly done thing (I did some of the later plug-in reviews). Plus it's a good way to rediscover things that can and should be re-implemented in some form

Is the %length% just supposed to put the minutes? This song is 6:02.  The %length_seconds% looks correct though.

In that example it should be being output as "6:02" when using %length% (will re-check as I re-used the code I use in JTFE so it should be working ok).

I'd program the date to look different but I just need to get it in some fashion.

Tying ATF formatting into this "ping" operation is fine.

I assume it's one of the RFC date formats that you'd want (based on what was in the earlier XML example). Just need to know which one and can look to get that added in.

Going with ATF and modifications of it may not be the ultimately best solution but for the most part it should suffice with it being a simpler way to access the metadata and custom data within how Winamp tends to want to work.

Hmmm, close Winamp and it crashed. Sent the debug email.

Although I thought I'd fixed that, it now transpires (as I'd not been able to fully test it) is that there's a hard-coded email address being used instead of what is specified via the config file. So you'll need to manually email those to my bug email address (am trying to figure out a quick solution to work around the native crash reporters issue ).

As for the request, it fits in perfectly with the ideas behind the Yule Log plug-in as a means to get the information from Winamp out into the world for whatever reason.

Sending a POST request of just the current song's information (as an XML body or parameterised) is easy enough with libcurl.


Though am already thinking it's best I add a JSON body equivalent and even the possibility to control what is sent (via ATF) instead of just hard-coding and hoping for the best.

Also is there any information in the current data set you get that's missing / needs tweaking ? Or would just making it more customisable solve that issue for you ?

Not that it's been commented on (unless I've missed it somehowbut I am aware that some of the action buttons on the forum (mainly when accessed via a mobile / small screen) are just showing as orange buttons with no image.

I'm looking into what is causing the theme to not show the images that it's meant to be so should have it resolved as soon as possible.

If you find anything else then please do say and I'ill do what I can to get it fixed.

p.s. I've also tweaked some of the mobile view sizes so once the browser cache gets updated then they should appear (e.g. the user info block on mobile is now like the desktop / large screen view so it's side-by-side instead of vertical which gets a fair bit of screen space back so the news banner should appear on mobile viewing now).

When you make a reply, if you use the full reply mode and expand the 'Attachments and other options' block just below the text box, there's a 'Notify me of replies.' option.

There might be something else that's easier in the forum account settings... like the following I just found at 'forum profile' -> 'modify profile' -> 'notifications' and the 'Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.' option.

I'm still getting to know the forum software myself so there might be an even easier way than either of those options.
