[SOLVED] Method: Passthrough audio to use milkdrop
« on: February 25, 2021, 02:31:57 AM »
OG post:
Hi everyone!

I'm currently using spotify on an android emulator hearing music I like and I'm wondering if it's there a way to passthrough the audio signal that this emulator generates (or any other source, even windows itself) to WACUP in order to have milkdrop react from it.

In more simple words, I want to use milkdrop as a independent visualizer, reacting to any sources (or selected sources) of sound in my PC.

That would be very useful to know. Thanks.

EDIT: I've figured it out.

The how:
1- Download and install VoiceMeeter. Restart the PC. (https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/)
2- Launch VoiceMeeter and in hardware output select your current sound output [e.g. Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio)]
3- In windows: go in the taskbar and click the sound icon and select VoiceMeeter Input.
4- FINAL: Open WACUP and press CTRL + L and write in the little window: linein:// and press Open. Then turn the WACUP volume down to 0% otherwise you will hear the same output you'll sending it to over again.

Note when using this: to level the volume up or down again you'll have to use the VoiceMeeter app volume fader as the sound icon at the taskbard won't work anymore (unless you change it to 0% lol).

Hope you'll find it useful as I think this is the easiest way I could find. Well not really but it worked like a charm in the first try lol.

As an addition to the above, it's also better to use the null output plug-in that's built into WACUP (Ignorant Output) so there's no need to worry about WACUP's volume & the playing feedback loop.

Yeah! I didn't know about that. That's another way to do it, thanks.

I probably should add something like milkdrop:// so it'll force the use of the null output without messing the user's specific config options. That'd still leave the option for not doing that as well as supporting the different device specification that can be set within the audio capture plug-in (when that's needed).
