Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18980 (April 24th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #18980 (April 24th 2024) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

The middle one isn't intended for use as a splash. I just included it so you can see the whole picture.

General Discussion / WACUP Windows start buttons

A couple of WACUP start buttons for use with OpenShell / ClassicShell.
Maybe not the most useful but feel free to do better.

General Discussion / Re: Other files in mp3 folder

Put anything you like in the folders. Winamp and WACUP ignore anything they do not have a decoder for.

As the waveform display is a standard feature for WACUP, it could be used to select a range in it, and when converting the file, it only converts the selected range ?

Optionally the ability to export the election with no re-encoding would be a bonus.

The idea came after suggesting the ability to call an external tool such as an editor, but then I realised that certain basic tasks could be done with Winamp.

Currently I use MP3 Direct Cut a lot while listening to long mixes or podcasts etc. when I want to cut a snippet.

Interesting. Although adding Explorer context menus has pros and cons.
Very useful, but if you have a lot of tools installed that add context items, it can be a laggy way to do anything.
However as that experience will be very individual for everyone, I am not saying I think it is a bad idea at all.

Specifically regarding an edit option,
looking at another tool for recording I see they have gone about it in a way that I can't make up my mind if I like.
Their solution is an edit button in the GUI. First time you click on it, it prompts you to point it at your chosen tool.
From then on it just opens the tool.
It has a convenience but I prefer if it was all done in a prefs panel.

An edit file option could be anywhere, even just a file menu item.
I just figure that as an activity you are sending the current file to an editor, so it seems a natural bedfellow to go in with the other send to options.
That would also allow for sending a track that is not the current track, and sending multiple files.

OK here is a nice easy one.

Can we have the option to add an external tool, to the send to menu ?
Send to editor, for example would be useful.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: AnimGIF support
« on: July 13, 2018, 07:43:32 PM »
I agree about preferring PNG, as MNG and APNG offer full quality images and better support for decent transparency effects.
This is a long term guilt-edge finishing touch for the project, as I can see that it is just a bit of bling.
I am also aware that on the fly scaling and rendering of AnimGIF can be a pain to get working.

I had not contemplated the implications for skins, but indeed I can see that animated image format support would allow for some interesting dynamic skin effects, with theoretically a minimal CPU impact.

Support for animated artwork would be nice
I have loads of animated album covers but forgot about them as they don't animate in Winamp.

I have yet to come across a non-MP3 podcast, but I get your point.
Better to try something like this when tagging is compliant for the supported formats.
Yeah could be a wise thing indeed.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: Artist / Band Info lookup
« on: July 09, 2018, 10:08:54 PM »
OK. I can work with that. Great answer I can get behind.
Remember I will always start with something we already have, hence suggesting the existing defunct panel.
Mostly I never used it because it just contained marketing crap, not a useful biography.

I bring this up because if swapping over to a standalone Last.fm scrobbler from the official client, I will lose the handy info on almost any band being at my fingertips.
Looking up info via the last.fm API would not require a working scrobbler so this could be a solution for everyone.

As you are thinking of replacing the info system, then maybe something modular like the new tracking plugin.
This way options such as discogs and musicbrainz could be bolted in ad-hoc, allowing for user option or redundancy in case of closure or no access.

One thing also occurs to me now. Last.fm shows when an artist is on tour. If this can be accessed via the API, then Winamp could have an option to popup a notification and have it show in the media library or new info.
Perhaps a skin independent option would be to have a dummy album "On Tour Now" at the top of the smart view when you click on an artist name.

Have you thought about using the Last.fm API to populate the "Show Info" panel in the media library ?
It is extensive and contains info on lots of independent and obscure obscure artists.
Being wiki based also means nobody has anyone but them self to blame for the fave new local band, or random find in a junk shop having no info.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / URL tag Ideas
« on: July 08, 2018, 03:58:23 AM »
How about using the URL metatag for something ?

eg. right or double click option for the artwork to open the URL if present.
If present, added to the info panel.

If the URL tag contains an RSS link, then use that to populate the info panel.
That way people can add the news feeds from the relevant band site or blog.

When downloading podcasts auto-add the feed URL to the metatag PODCASTURL.
Then when setting up on a fresh system for example, your old podcast collection can be used to repopulate the podcast section.
This could either be a tick box set for use during scanning your media as normal, or as an "Import Podcasts" option. eg. available when you right click on the root Podcast icon
This would help sync things for people that use multiple PCs with an external drive.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: Podcasts - Grouping
« on: July 08, 2018, 03:04:12 AM »
They would still be in alphabetical order.
I am not talking about the panel with the individual feed contents, but the one labelled Podcast on the left.
A simple dividing line, not unlike my example would be very handy

Grouping is a fairly standard feature of feed readers and pod-catchers so you can prioritise them to some degree.
Not unlike my other attached example

Any chance we can have the ability to add dividing lines in the podcast list, so they can be grouped ?
Perhaps as another option in the Add button
eg. Add divider

Not sure of the most useful single word. "Add group" would indicate you may be able to name them. Obviously that would be useful but I think a simple dividing line would be preferable.
