Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18798 (April 7th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #17040 (September 30th 2023) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

"Sod this for a game of getting-lost-in-the-dark !" Echoed across the hillside.
And so the one rebel Llama, despondent with the herd and its new pack-leader, made his weary way down the mountain to find new pastures.

On this long and winding journey the lonely Llama met a few old stragglers from the mountain, who are also despondent and tired, but they are all glad to see him and slowly but steadily they started to follow in his tracks.

"There is another mountain to climb, and it may be hard going and slim-pickings" he told those that now looked expectantly at him. "and some of the new things here may make you sick".

The bravest of the other Llamas stepped forward and said "we are healthy and will take that risk for the benefit of the herd". "We will take small bites and tell you how we feel".

The lonely Llama did  not feel so lonely any more. He was happy that the other Llamas had his back and so he smiled a big toothy Llama smile and declared, "oh brave Llamas because you are willing to risk falling over for the faithful flock as we look for better grazing, you shall be the Beta-team".

He looked up the new mountain and thought to himself "Well, I am master of my own destiny, the outlook is nice, every one else has to stare up my arse while we climb, and the other arse-holes are on the other mountain".
As the proud pack meanderered up the mountain, the wise old Llama mulled-over the mornings' meaning, and pondered on the position of the present peak, and if it projected more prominently than the previous place.
He smiled and slowly chewed his cud as he thought "When the wind is blowing the right way, I shall fart in their general direction".

After climbing several milestones, a nervous voice could be heard emmitting from the herd "Please sir ! do we allow Alpacas in this pack ?"
"Of course we do!" laughed the Llama-leader, "we are the most inclusive herd in the world. We already accept ZIPpackers, RARpackers and are open with AL, so all Alpacas will be welcome".

Murmurings of contentment rippled through the herd, and the owner of the nervous voice stepped forward to ask another question, "...umm, what about the Ginger ones? I hear they are night-stalkers and don't have souls."
The old Llama stopped chewing for a moment, and spat a wad of cud off a ledge, watching it drop and swirl until it could no longer be seen.
"We will talk about it on the way" he said, as he wondered how to break the news that his followers' facial fur was not the "Strawbery-Blonde" his Mother had claimed.

That night was a peaceful one on the mountain.
....apart from the farting and occasional sobbing of 1 member of the herd.

You have sort of wandered in the direction I was intending for discussion, as you obviously tried to do, or are aware of things AjaxAmp cannot do.

AjaxAmp is sort of arbitrary for the topic, only relevant as-in it is a working addon (if limited).

I am more interested in brainstorming ideas that make Winamp indispensable to anyone that also uses a mobile device.

I am not talking replacing Kodi, but thinking more;

"Wouldn't it be cool if you could easily...."

...translate multi-touch events into a convenient way to control 2 Winamps running together with a DJ-mixer DSP ? (DJ-Hero plugin+app)

...Control Milkdrop and AVS from your device via sliders and knobs GUI, mapped to the various key-presses ? (VJ-Hero plugin+app)

There must be other ideas that have never been "a thing" due to a previous world of separate devices and software.
I think device integration and fluidity is the way forward to keep Winamp relevent down the road, so an API that has the scope to encompass more than just play music will be a major boon in these wilderness years (After-all that is what WACUP is).

I am wondering if including AjaxAmp as a standard option could be a way to encourage more app development aimed at connecting to Winamp, or even more networking or parallel-plugins (like pro remote controlled/linked mixing desks).
Perhaps the group could scratch their chins and think of some funky ways to use Winamp via remote control, or controlling something else, or working as a hive ? (or "herd" if we use the Llama reference).

I think Betas should auto-update, but the stable versions should backup any replaced files if they do not wait for interaction.
Unlike the increasingly common habit for keeping people in the dark, I think you should make a point of showing the updates, versioning and progress, so that even in full-auto mode users are kept in the loop.

I will see your croissant and pain au chocolate....
and raise you a toasted croissant with a tub of chocolate spread.

Here is a possible compromise. How about having Winamp export a playlist as a cue file ?

« on: December 16, 2016, 09:26:42 PM »
I tend to agree after hunting for a while myself, it would seem best to stick with the modplug code.
The most likely source of the in_XMP plugin seems to be in the XMPlayer forum. Perhaps as it is the authors first plugin, they are the reason it is so basic.
I may try to get in contact anyway and add some suggestions for improvement. It is good to have at least 2 comparable plugins being developed.

@Juanus a tracker module file, is basically like a midi file but with the used instrument samples included in the module, so it sounds the same for everyone.

OpenMPT allows you to convert midi files into tracker mods. This is handy if you have a high quality set of samples.

I remembered it being a topic on the blog, but not that it was done, I'll pay more attention to that page in future! oops.
I have been using the OpenModPlug version for a while, but it still lacks support for some of my Amiga mods.

I use XMPlayer to play mods perfectly for converting to mp3 etc., and it gets regular updates for one reason or another, so I'm not sure if OpenMPT offers that much edge when XMP focus has always been about accuracy over everything else.
Smirftsch, the lead coder at OldUnreal had to make the same choice for the Unreal updates, and was originally against XMP due to the licensing restrictions, but after looking through the red-tape realised it does not matter.
Unreal is a commercial product, but the OldUnreal patches are free and unofficial (though officially allowed by Epic, because Smirftsch has a licence from Epic. I think this is why he thought he couldn't use XMP).

Implemented Requests / Re: Play Tracking Suggestion
« on: December 14, 2016, 07:00:37 PM »
I know, I did think long and hard where to post, but it came to mind because of the need here.
It displays the current playing track on a website, and allows people to request tracks from playlists.
The new version is supposed to be more flexible, so it may be easier to use it with no playlists.

However....
I have other suggestions that may be more suitable.
Until Last.fm turned into a bag of poo, I relied on that to provide my playing now info, but since using "Simple Last.fm Scrobbler" for android, I have found a few more by looking in the settings.

https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.adam.aslfms
https://github.com/tgwizard/sls

The services it lists are;
Last.fm
Libre.fm
Listen Brainz
Custom GNU-fm/Libre.fm Server
Custom Listen Brainz Server

Non-comercial sites and plugins are much more preferable I think.

117
There are a couple of decent mod player replacements, both with worth while cores.
Based on Open Mod Plug Tracker and LibXMP, they offer comparable quality and format support, though I think XMP has more including many Amiga formats.

ModPlug Winamp Input Wrapper Plugin v0.2b [libmodplug 0.8.8.2]
http://wks.arai-kibou.ru/soft.php#modplug
OpenMPT v0.2.5857
ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/software/players/Windows/Winamp/input%20plugins/

 In_XMP (eXtended Module Player) v4.3.12.7z
ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/software/players/Windows/Winamp/input%20plugins/

I suggest we opt for 1 of these to be the new standard, or to build from them as they all have source available.

Implemented Requests / Re: Play Tracking Suggestion

Henry00 of 00Laboritories is working on an update for his old plugin "HRequest".
It is aimed at working the other way round, but displays the current playing track.

"Description:   HRequest is a Winamp General Plugin that allows requesting songs through a website.
If you require remote controls or wish to let friends choose what they would like to listen then this is for you."
http://wayback.archive.org/web/20140208031127/http://00laboratories.com/?q=node/22

I can suggest he bring the new version here for testing. I have a beta, but as it was personally given and is not yet on the new site, so I won't hand it out without permission.

I will attach the old version so you have an idea of the setup.
Actually I can see this working well with people that host shoutcast radio.

Archive / Re: Happy Thanksgiving!
« on: December 12, 2016, 09:52:28 AM »
Yule and the Winter Solstice is the traditional time for gathering with family and giving thanks that we made it to the turn of the year.

This comes after Samhain (Halloween), which is the time when you wave goodbye to those that did not make it this far, and light candles for those you miss (the Celtic Festival of the Dead).
Before that is usually the harvest festivals, which is the origin of Thanksgiving.
The "Pilgrim Fathers" left Plymouth (due to religious differences) and went to Holland where they lived for several years until (religious differences again) and then they went to the "new world".
The now depleted and diseased Pilgrims struggled to grow anything they brought with them, or hunt the local wildlife. They did not know which plants were poisonous until becoming sick.
The first successful crop was corn which they were  taught to grow by a local.
The following year a gathering was held as they gave thanks, and the "Indians" that attended brought turkeys to eat with the cornbread.

So in many ways we all have a Thanksgiving festival, in every corner of the world (even though it is a ball with no corners).

Lets not encourage people to become part of a botnet. UPNP should be disabled on everyone's router, and in Windows.
Perhaps something like AjaxAmp would be a solution, or a wrapper for it.
