I started this thread as a place for Winamp/WACUP users to share what they have learned related to the title subject. Due to the age of Winamp, and since WACUP is based on Winamp and still uses pieces of Winamp code, some metadata is needed for certain features to perform as intended.

Some music formats can store metadata within the file and some do not, so some metadata can be provided by the various input plug-ins. Some metadata is provided by Winamp/WACUP itself (i.e. %filename%, %folder%, %playcount%, etc.). Some music formats can support a greater variety of metadata than others. With the introduction of the media library, it became possible for metadata to be associated with music files that do not (or did not) store metadata within the file.

Winamp/WACUP is able to compensate for some missing metadata (e.g. using %artist% as %albumartist%, even when they are not the same thing) and/or by guessing from the information provided in a file's filename. I'm looking to learn more about the minimum default metadata needed and not what is needed for individual needs such as that required to support custom media library views and/or custom ATF strings.

The information provided by ATF Help (html page) is a great resource. Even with that, it took me awhile to learn that providing the correct %artist% and %albumartist% and the %album% for each file is a good idea (even if it meant making up an album name for files that were released individually).

So, please share what you know.  :)

Well from one old timer to another, I'm sure you know that sometimes things advertised as an improvement aren't. Also you know the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".  ;)

Open the WACUP Preferences and scroll down to the Advanced section (bottom on the left) and select the Diagnostics group. Then select the File Associations tab in the Diagnostics group. This tab should list most of the file types associated with the active (checked) input plug-ins. Some input plug-ins do not directly report the file types they handle. However the ones you're interested in should be listed.

I will try to implement these functions. But now I'm working on a new skin. :)

Thank you. Good luck on your new project.

Thank you Denis for adding the notification panel. It works very well.

I would like you to consider adding 2 more capabilities.

1. An x-offset adjustment and y-offset adjustment to allow for adjusting the default positions of the panel.

2. 3 variable time adjustments for the seconds taken to fade in, hold, and fade out the panel.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: New Milkdrop defaults
« on: July 11, 2021, 11:39:49 PM »

All i want is Milkdropp3D.

While support for 3D presets would be nice, what I would like to see is a pseudo-random mode. Meaning that all the active presets are chosen before the same preset is selected again. Sure random mode can be turned off, allowing all the presets to be selected in alphabetical order, but having all the presets selected out of order before the same preset is selected again would be great, imo.

Off Topic:
Such a pseudo-random mode would also be great for playlist playback, imo.

Thank you LuxXx for your guidance. I've tried various settings in the past. Yours do seem to work well for my system and make the transitions between presets better than the settings I've been using. I usually run Milkdrop in fullscreen mode. I have collected several hundred presets over the years and currently have about 200 active. The FPS rate on my system ranges between 40 and 60 and most of these presets run at the higher end.

You and Dr. Flay disagree on whether to use hardcuts. I have them enabled and see little to no interruptions. There is 1 thing. My version of Milkdrop (2.32.2) doesn't support 260 seconds. I currently have it set to 60, but at least 180 will work. Do you recommend I use the larger value?

Skins / Re: Quinto Black CT v3.1 Album Coverflow option

This is how you do it in v3.6: Options > Quinto Black CT > RGB Color Changer > select Loudspeaker Box and apply new color.

Thanks, you're the man.  :)

Hi ariszlo,

I've finally installed version 3.6 of Quinto Black CT with Winamp. I want see how everything is there before using it with WACUP. So far so good. Every component I was using with v3.1 works in this version.

You misunderstood the album art I was talking about. I was talking the images in the coverflow component, not the single image album art window. Anyway I figured out how to re-size the images in the coverflow. I normally keep the background of this component hidden. The solution is to enable the background and resize it, then hide it again.

I have noticed a couple of minor changes. In v3.1 the color of the speakers can be changed and there are 9 album art images in the coverflow component instead of 7.

Skins / Komodo X Touchscreen

Hi Victhor,

Thank you for the updates to the Big Bento Modern skins. I still don't have a big screen monitor, so when are you going to show some more love for the subject skin. It is great as is (imo) and still my favorite for use with WACUP, but it would benefit from those updates you hinted at awhile back.

General Discussion / Re: Crossfading Plug-ins
« on: July 08, 2021, 01:18:10 AM »
Thank you for the feedback, Mmusicman.

I've tried versions 1.72 and 1.79 and neither one would work correctly. I will look for version 1.75 and give it a try.

2) If an item is selected in the main playlist editor then it'll show it otherwise it'll show what's relevant to the currently playing item. When disabled it just shows what's available for the currently playing item (the lyrics plug-in follows the same logic). ...

That makes sense. All the songs in my collection have embedded or folder artwork associated with them which is why I didn't see a change when disabling this option. Adding artwork is part of the vetting process I go thru before adding songs to my permanent collection. I temporarily removed the embedded image from a mp3 and the image I have selected to be shown when no artwork is available was shown when this option is enabled or disabled. In any case, leaving this option enabled is probably what would be best for me.

By the way, using the Alt+3 editor in WACUP sometimes doesn't embed artwork in my mp3 files. In these cases I use the ALT+3 editor in Winamp supported with thinktink's plug-in (which is the only thing I use Winamp for these days  :) ).

1. What does the "Auto-hide" option supposed to do? I don't see a behavior difference when it is enabled or disabled. I leave it disabled.

2. What does the  "Show album art for selected playlist item"  option supposed to do when disabled? I don't see a behavior difference when it is disabled. I leave it enabled.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Re: Media Library Behavior

... - you'd need to keep using the local library plug-in from 5.666 which is still the default plug-in for the moment. ...

With all you're doing, you may have forgotten that the new media library core in build 8100 doesn't currently support showing the album art in the views that have them, in the library plug-in from 5.666.

You have commented elsewhere that you're considering concentrating on the replacement library plug-in instead of trying to fix issues with the plug-in from 5.666 that occur with WACUP developmental changes. If so, then users (like myself) who like to see album art in library views will have to be patient for awhile.
