Extra plugins you may need
« on: January 02, 2021, 08:34:46 AM »
WACUP is very complete but there are a few extra file formats and input/output solutions you may need.
NOTE: Wacup already plays Shockwave Flash SWF files, so don't bother looking for a plugin.

You can use the Media Player Classic standalone RealMedia splitter instead.

Weird MPEG Variants will often play back on regular MP3 decoders, but will ignore extra data.
You may need a specific plugin to hear the extra frequency bands, channels or lossless audio.
You should convert any of these files to a better supported format and disable the plugin after being used.

Thanks for the info! By listing them I presume you have tested them as fully working in the December build and for portable installations too?

Since it seems you're a plugin expert, have you any idea what is the condition for a 3rd party plugin to be accepted by Wacup as legit and be listed as a candidate plugin in Preferences? I am trying to test the MAD input plugin (indispensable imho for any music player) as well as the old WASAPI-NT plugin in case it works better than the not-so-yasapi bundled, but they are not even listed as installed (and yes, I have the 'Allow 3rd party plugins'checkbox checked).

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Where is this option? I can't find it.

Aminifu: It doesn't exist in non-portable installs.

Mits: I know some of them won't play nicely as part of a truly portable install due to the age of them even with some of my attempts to re-map configuration handling. As for the MAD input plug-in, I know some view it as the only thing to use (personally I've never been able to hear an obvious difference with any of the input plug-ins) but using that plug-in can & will break some functionality (more so streaming playback due to in_mp3 offering more than just mp3 support which is something that the non-FhG based WACUP replacement will have to ensure isn't an issue going ahead).

No idea about WASAPI-NT (am guessing that might be the yasapi replacement?) but it's also very likely the author has done things to ensure it won't be loaded under WACUP. I don't remember if you've already mentioned what issues you're having with notsoyasapi - if not, would be useful to know.

Thanks Aminifu and our DeaR Overlord (just discovered what 'dro' stands for !) for your kind interest.

libMAD is used by the majority of linux music players and portable music devices by default - imho Wacup can't be left behind. Even the prehistoric Winamp used it. Why not let users decide what they want to do - if they want simple general playback they can use the defaults. If they need audiophile quality, 24-32 bits output, noise shaping and most important of all, auto clipping attenuation, they can use MAD. Personally, 90% of my stuff is FLAC, but many users still use the mp3 format for space considerations or convenience - noone has the time to reencode his library or search for better bitrates.

out-yasapi-nt is the continuation of the original out-yasapi: http://pbelkner.de/projects/web/out-yasapi/
I think the development of out-yasapi started long before Wacup was born and I doubt he has any motives to shoot himself in the foot by blocking his plugin for all the winamp-plugin-compatible music players.

My problems with notsoyasapi were the ones that led me to register in this forum and are described here: https://getwacup.com/community/index.php/topic,830.msg5120.html . The issue is still not resolved with me and unfortunately I don't have the time to find the sweet spot of buffer sizes for each new Wacup build - I just learned to live with it.

i just gave this new plugin a go (so no one else has to going forward) and i am already angry at how it's named

in what world do we live where this is included?
why would anyone ever use this in their own free will?
it's clear as day that the author pushes his views down everyone's throat, whether or not they asked for it, and it too is clear that they like to freely post slander about people as well (the page linking to the new YASAPI-NT plugin lists it in its table of contents)

but it kinda gets worse.

since this individual decided to use a fancy library to display it's settings, it cannot find the relevant files for that, but why is that? why cant it find the needed files?
probably because it has a hardcoded winamp path, which it expects, and despite clearly selecting the folder, it refuses to accept it, for whatever reason

now, i ask you, mits.
why choose this plugin? is it because it "just works"? can't you see the blatant messages he has posted enforcing his views onto others? dont you care about that?

some say separate the art from the artist, i personally think that does not apply here.
dont use it, for your own sake.

edit: i actually got it working winamp (very big mistake) and taking a peek at the notes section made me even more pissed off than i already off. why are you suggesting this? why are you using this?

Mits: So it's just the vis issue, wasn't sure if you'd meant something else. As for libMAD, I was under the impression that was defunct since the mid-2000s & the likes of libmpg123 (wasn't libmad a fork of that?) / ffmpeg was where everything had gone. With my name, interesting but not correct, it's just my initials.

Gordon: Thank you for looking into that. However I'm not at all surprised they've put that in the plug-in :(

Yes pbelkner is a piece of work. To his credit, he did state that his original plug-in was developed for his person use (with his computer equipment and Winamp configuration) and others could use it at their own risk.

It never worked correctly for me and I gave up on it and him when he started the unfounded attacking of dro.

@Gordon: FYI Not So YASAPI with default settings works now flawlessly in the latest February build.

As for libMAD, there's no alternative mpg decoder with its features. However the issue is somewhat redundant because nowadays everybody uses flac and other lossless formats - mp3 is becoming obsolete (except for the audio track in some videos)

Good to know you're ignoring everything I've mentioned, which also says a whole lot about you. 👍

@GF: I don't understand why you are pissed. I ignored you because you are very OOT - we were talking about the native Wacup Yasapi support, not some third-party solution. All "it says about me" is that I want to stay on topic, inform everybody that all issues were fixed, I expressed my gratitude to the devs in another post, so where's the crime?
