Try this:

Take any 2 songs that have very different loudness levels.

Use WACUP to scan them with ReplayGain and write the gain information to their tags.

Play the songs in WACUP.
Then play them in Foobar2000.

My experience:
The difference between the how the 2 players output the songs is stark.
With WACUP, I still got a very soft and a very loud song (in terms of volume levels). I actually couldn't tell the difference in the loudness before and after ReplayGain.
With Foobar2000 the played levels are more or less equal (for the songs).

The songs I used were these (I downloaded and converted them to .mp3 with with yt-dlp and FFMPEG. Both are "All I ask" by Adele, one is a cover by Bruno Mars):
1) Low volume levels song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCtYekG1qBc
2) High volume levels song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sonzlE32YVg

I've tried this with multiple versions of WACUP. I'm currently using the latest public release. My settings look like this:

"It will be supported when WACUP is out of Preview."
Right now it's more than likely not supported, though if you know your way around the registry, you can more than likely add this yourself, that said however, you're on your own with it and I wouldn't recommend doing this if you don't know your way around the registry.

Thank you.

Question: how does one know it's out of preview? Is there a numbering scheme I need to look out for?

Could someone please give me the exact steps so that...

... when I double click on an MP3 in Windows File Explorer (Windows 11)...

... it Enqueues the MP3 in the only open WACUP instance's Playlist Editor.

I'm using WACUP v1.99.16.19516

Seems it should be possible by now as it's mentioned here:

Thank you in advance.

Let's say:

- You know that ReplayGain exists.

- You often create playlists on the fly.

- You don't want to permanently change the loudness of any song.

What's your simple, replicable workflow for loudness normalization of all songs in a playlist?

Maybe it's a version issue.

I have version 1.0.21.7236
build date: March 10 2021

First of all, as always, THANK YOU to devs for your work on WACUP. It's my daily driver and awesome.

I'm writing to report a possible bug for future removal. I created a bookmark (right click on item in playlist > bookmark selected). And the bookmark was created and works fine. But the "Edit Bookmarks" item is greyed out (right click on winamp logo > Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks). I presume that "Edit Bookmarks" is needed to delete a bookmark because I can't see any other option. Because it's greyed out, I can't delete any bookmarks. Hope this can be resolved sometime in the future.

THANKS!

General Discussion / portable edition: thanks and thoughts
« on: August 11, 2021, 01:23:43 AM »
Ever since I discovered portable apps for Windows some 4 years ago, that's all I use (when I have the option).

A couple of the main advantages are
  • Migrating apps to a new PC is a breeze. I just copy over my folder with all the portable apps in it (I still have to install the non-portable apps in my new PC though.
  • I can use them in my severely locked down work PC without making a trip to the IT dept and asking them to install something on the work PC.

So... from every fiber of my being, thank you to you devs for the WACUP portable edition.

There were portable editions of Winamp floating about on the internet if one knew where to find them. And I've used those in the past. And I've even portabilized Winamp myself in the past. But they always had some issues or the other that made them somewhat unpleasant to use. Having used lots and lots of portable versions of Winamp, I believe WACUP portable is the best portable version out there.

I've had a couple of issues with my installation of WACUP portable edition, and I'm writing the rest of this post to bring attention to these issues.

  • My .mp3 files seem to have lost the earlier Winamp icon they used to have (under a prior Winamp portable app). The icon I see now is a plain white rectangle like the image below:
  • Double-clicking the file in the file explorer to enqueue in Winamp... if we could get this feature for the portable edition, that'll be really great.
  • I love the "restart playing from point where you closed Winamp last time" (Options > Preferences > General > Autoplay > Restore playing position). However, it restores the position even if I load a different .mp3 file the next time. My wish for this features: that it should recognize whether the same file has been loaded as the last time Winamp was closed, and only then to restore the playing position. (Simple explanation, let's say I'm playing a song "abc.mp3" and I close Winamp when I've played the first 2 minutes of the song. Then, I double click on "xyz.mp3" in my file explorer. Winamp opens and starts to play "xyz.mp3" at the 2 minute mark. This is unwanted behavior. It should only start playing at the 2 minute mark if I open "abc.mp3" again.

That's all -- thanks!
