This makes a lot of sense. After a few hours of fighting with everything, I realized my flac files are actually named 01 - track 02 - track etc but my m4a were just the names of the titles. My own fault for not investigating further. Solved!

Would be cool if it could work based on the metadata like iTunes but love WACUP anyway . Thanks for the response!

There is no sorting of things based on the metadata during drag+drop actions (has been requested along with deduplication if there's also playlist files in the selection) & it's primarily done based on the order that the OS provides the files depending on how its been selected or sometimes based on the file creation date (more of a thing from old fat32 formatted drives).

Other than having premade playlist files (imho the best way to ensure a known order) & adding them it seems like it's just handling them in the order the OS is giving as I don't know if you're doing it from a selection within the folder or the folder itself for the drag+drop action.

Without the post release updates applied & if you're using the notsoyasapi output plug-in then it has a bug which broke playback with that output plug-in.

Hence the post release update being provided for it which if a crash occurs should've triggered a prompt to install them or it might've detected the output plug-in & reverted things back to the default notsodirect output plug-in depending on what the crash details indicated.

I can't check until tomorrow now if there were an crash reports making it to the site server to see if the ogg crash was caught in some manner to resolve it.

I downloaded the recent update and now nothing plays. No online radio. In case of a music playlist, it just fast skips over them one by one. And finally when I tried to play an OGG file the WACUP terminated without an error. And now after the OGG attempt I cannot launch WACUP at all: it terminates after the window appears.

EDIT:
I tried Safe Mode - did nothing.
I tried Crash Collector - it showed the terminal, WACUP continued to malfunction.
Then I ran WACUP again, it finally threw a crash report window and after which WACUP started running normally again.
Now that's odd.

Hi! I don't know if this is solved or not, but I've been having trouble with my metadata from m4a tracks. Whenever I load my .flac albums onto a playlist (just drag and drop a folder of files) they're arranged correctly by track number and disc number. When I try to do the same with my m4a files, they're arranged alphabetically. For the m4a files, in windows explorer I see the correct track number, and everything works correctly and loads according to track number in iTunes. The only thing I've noticed is that I look at the metadata for the files in wacup it shows 1/15 2/15 instead of integers 1, 2... If I manually edit the data, it still doesn't fix the issue.

I used mp3tag to delete the totaltracks metadata from the album, and this made wacup metadata read integers (1, 2...) rather than the fractions (1/15, 2/15, ...) but the files are still loading alphabetically. Really frustrating because all my flac albums work perfectly, and I think the metadata is fine (in some regard) because iTunes is reading it properly.

Hope someone can help!

I'll be clear on this, WACUP is not Winamp so I will do things differently to it based on what I feel needs to be done with it. If you (or anyone else reading this) are not happy with that then you are more than welcome to uninstall it & use something else that better suits your needs. Additionally if you've made a donation then let me know the details & I'll do what I can to get it refunded so you're not out of pocket.


There are a bunch of options to control how wacup will do update checks so you can always just disable all of that & stick on whatever version you've got installed. That is from preferences -> about|updates -> updates tab (with a never option also being added for the next interim build to the post-release updates dropdown at the bottom) or by going to preferences -> general -> internet | online & turning the option off - it still allows you to play streams but it won't then do any update checks, etc.

As I've already tried to explain it's not my fault that the OS has a shitty requirement to do something that I also don't like related to a mode that otherwise I find is beneficial for getting post-release updates installed sooner. I also made changes with the 24616 build that recently went up which tries to auto-hide the shortcut when the fallback handling (as described previously) has been triggered.

So I've done what I can & if you don't like that then there's nothing else I can do & yes you should just uninstall it & move on.

Why would I need a toast? I never update the software, I just need a simple audio player. But every day, I get back the entry in Start menu. So I am thinking of getting rid of WACUP just because of this. It is annoying, and making me angry. Winamp did not do this.

I would continue using 20 years old Winamp, but it does not support newer SSL protocols which the online radio I listen to, is using. This is the only reason why I had to switch to WACUP.

Visualisations / Trying to convert AVS preset to MilkDrop, confusing results

I programmed a preset for WinAmp's AVS which I enjoy a lot. But I wondered if I could convert it to the MilkDrop 2 system. Well, that turned out to be not as easy. And I may have noticed a serious bug.

The MilkDrop 2 plugins in WACUP and foobar2000 differ obviously. While this reports version 2.41.4 and supports up to 4 custom shapes and waveforms which it saves explicitly, that one identifies as version 0.8.14 and supports up to 16 custom shapes and waveforms which it saves minimalistically. {PS: foo_MilkDrop2 is indeed an enhanced fork.}

The elephant in the room here is that the phase display I programmed displays a long diagonal line when the visualizer window frame is clicked or moved, and the right channel spectrum is not visible, so I have to assume that the right audio channel contains garbage values beyond 481 samples of the waveform window (looks fine up to 481, starts messing from 482 samples upwards).

{PS: From time to time there are even more mysterious issues. With the last update I installed yesterday, I see only one quadrant in use, as if all of the values are positive only.}

Both problems are due to my attempt to get 5.666's gen_ff plug-in working outside of winamp & there's still a bunch of things I've to figure out when it comes to resolving such compatibility issues especially with the window frames disappearing which can happen with any of the winamp3 / modern style skins though I've only tended to see it happen when resizing the windows. I don't have a timescale for fixing these types of issues.
