Send To Mapped Network Drive from WACUP?
« on: October 21, 2025, 05:23:25 PM »
I've been trying to get an "easy" way to send files from the WACUP media library or active playlist to my Android phone.

MTP between Android and Windows 10 seems to be just brutally broken and slow in my Windows Explorer so not surprising it doesn't work for me in WACUP. Maybe due to my current low budget potato phone. Anyway...

So I have a sync task between my Music folder on the Android phone and a shared drive on my NAS, that shared drive mapped to M: in Windows 10.
It does appear in the Send To: menu within Windows Explorer but that M: drive does not show up as a target from within WACUP.

Is there a way to do send to a mapped network drive from WACUP currently or should this be under Feature Requests?

I could have sworn that Send to a network drive from Winamp used to work last time I tried that (long ago) and that MTP used to work a lot better for this, either way the whole process was pretty slick to dump music from my PC onto my Android phone, but now I'm kinda stumped.

Thanks for all your hard work keeping this project going I've been using Winamp since like 1998 and just recently found WACUP.

The default x86 wacup install doesn't enable by default the re-used portables plug-in from the 5.666 installer due to it be problematic but that is likely where some of the aspects that you are / were using under winamp.

That plug-in has an mtp sub plug-in which can be configured via Preferences -> Plug-ins -> Portables however you'll first need to go to Preferences -> Plug-ins -> Media Library -> fine ml_pmp in the list (assuming it was able to be obtained during the initial install), check the option & allow WACUP to restart if needed to enable it.

I've currently not done anything obvious towards a replacement which is needed to also allow the x64 build to have whatever the replacement plug-in's functionality might end up being whilst dropping the need to try to obtain that old plug-in from the 5.666 installer.

Hey thanks for the reply DrO.
I had actually just installed Winamp 5.666 not too long after I posted this, and it wouldn't take a mapped drive as a Send To target there either.
I think I might have been using an old third party plugin that's long gone...

A few minutes ago I tried one of the USB3 ports right on my mobo instead of my case's (apparently janky) front panel and was able to get a much more stable connection there... Windows Explorer can actually access the phone's storage without hanging now.

So I gave it another try in WACUP and the pmp_mtp works great!
It's actually pretty slick.

Sorry to waste your time here but I'm happy to report that WACUP's MTP support works fine for me at least, using a Samsung A53, as long as the USB connection is good.

Was totally barking up the wrong tree with the mapped drive thing, MTP is the only way to go for linking WACUP to Android apparently.

Thanks again!
