Latest WACUP public preview for x86 & x64 is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)
Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Hello I'm new to the forum.

Hello everybody. I'm New to the forum, but a very long time winamp fan. I first found it in the late 90s. I don't know when it originally came out. but I found it in the late 90s, and I did not need to search for any other music player! I fell in love with winamp. and I haven't switched or changed since then. I was very pleased and excited to see that it's back in production. and that there's support for it. I have 'winamp' 5.9.2 and I do NOT like where they are taking the software at all. So, I'm switching to WACUP. I installed it a few days ago to check it out. I'm very grateful for this program and I hope to give you my support in any way I can.

Question: When I tried to install build 19994, I clicked on the install program and it did nothing. I then went to the previous build and nothing. I had to go all the way back to build WACUP_Preview_v1_0_21_7236 in order for it to install. Then it did an auto-update and it installed the latest build. It seemed like a possible security issue? Why did it do that?

I really have no idea why none of the recent installers worked as they should do but seemingly did when going back to a relatively ancient build & then triggered the auto-update. It's not something I remember being reported before & the update working indicates the installer can work since it's the same one that's used be it manually or via the self-updates. What OS are you using as I'm honestly stumped about the install experience you had unless it's some weird a/v / win11 permissions weirdness.

First I want to say I have had very little sleep working on this.  So If I sound like a raving lunatic I'm sorry.
*****I found the fix to the install problems. (oh and thanks for the quick response.)

Since you asked about my security settings I'll give ya the low down so you know what works and what I found dose not work.

    Windows 11 Pro
  • avast virus checker and firewall
  • Secondary virus checker Windows defender
  • Windows Defender Application Control policy   Enforced
  • TPM 2.0
  • Core Isolation Memory integrity on
  • boot to UEFI BIOS Mode
  • Secure Boot State   On
  • Kernel DMA Protection
  • Virtualization-based security   Running
  • A hypervisor has been detected. Features required for Hyper-V will not be displayed.

After slowly turning everything on/off It all came down to the setting found at:

Windows security/ apps and browser control/ reputation based protection/ check apps and files: turn to OFF

Once that is disabled the current build and all the previous builds will install the way they should.

I hope that helps you in some way!

Ah reputation based checking. The "fun" of where to get the file you need to download it but to download it you need to already have the reputation. Little I can do about that but will keep it in mind as I know the non-MS options have also caused similar problems but there's usually been a prompt of some sort to indicate its happening unlike what appears to have happened with the Win11 implementation of nothing for you. Its also a bit weird how getting the update via the really old build doesn't seem to be checked with that so for now am going to put that in my Win11 does things that Win10 probably doesn't mental list.
