Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #21640 (May 11th 2025) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Original thread title: Remember Playlist Custom Order

--

Howdy,

Today I have encountered something rather frustrating and hopefully this can be addressed so my clumsy fingers aren't causing me any more headaches lol...

I was ordering songs in a pretty big playlist and had been working on it for some time, then I misclicked on the 'Title' header and the playlist was automatically ordered alphabetically. I tried 'Alt + Z' but unfortunately this had no effect. All my work evaporated 😅 (EDIT: Actually realized since I did not load a different playlist I still had the correct order in the Playlist Editor pane. I was able to save it again with the proper song order. Still, I think some improvements can be made to how playlist changes are handled.)

Would it be possible to implement a 'Sort list by hand' or something that Wacup could remember so that if we change sorting it can be reverted to our custom sorting?

The above seems overly complex and there may be a simpler approach...

Alternatively, and maybe a simpler solution, an undo button - or better yet a functional 'Alt + Z' - could work so that we can restore the playlist to a previous state in case of changes.

I noticed that if I go into a playlist, then change the position of a song, a 'Save' button appears indicating that the change(s) are not (yet) permanent and have to be saved. This is not the case when you re-order the playlist by clicking on the 'Title' header (probably something that should also trigger the 'Save' button to be displayed). Also, if you don't click on the 'Save' button and move to a different playlist, the changes are automatically saved. This is a bit clunky, I like the 'Save' button idea but it seems redundant if you don't need to click on it to save your changes.

I'm not sure what would be the best solution. I may prefer to be forced to click the 'Save' button to confirm changes. Maybe moving to a different playlist after making changes that are not saved would display a popup 'Your playlist order has changed, what would you like to do?' Save/Cancel. Maybe a checkbox 'Don't ask me again' for users that don't want to bother with this every time. Just thinking out loud.

Let me know what you think :)

Looks like it did the trick! File is playing normally now.

Thanks for pointing out this option :-)

Resolved Issues / Issues playing Hi-Res WAV
« on: July 08, 2024, 05:07:40 PM »
Howdy,

My friend was recording an event straight from a mixer and saved the show as Hi-Res WAV (32Bits 96kHz). He made a little mistake by merging the left and right channels so the file is in mono, but this shouldn't really be an issue.

When I tried to play the file in Wacup, the sound was distorted and had a lot of clipping. He was a little panicked at first thinking the entire recording was messed up. I then tried to play the same file in Winamp and the sound was in fact ok and played well.

I'm a bit confused as to what's happening here since I use the same output plugin in Winamp and Wacup (AudioBurst FX). They also both share the same settings. Here's the resampler settings (both identical in Wacup and Winamp):

I have also noticed that the Spectrum Analyzer shows a much more satured waveform in Wacup compared to Winamp as illustrated below:

Wacup

Winamp

Note that this is the exact same file playing, locally (not on my NAS).

Any idea what's going on here?

Thanks!

Edit: Tested with other output plugins Not So Direct and Not So YASAPI, same result.

Howdy,

While looking at some of the threads here I came across one mentioning the waveform seeker. I've never really used it before but it's a neat little feature so I played a bit with it and found some issues.

When I'm reading a FLAC or MP3 from my NAS, the waveform won't load and looks like this:

However if I copy the file locally, looks good!

Seems like Wacup doesn't play too well with libraries on a NAS.

This also prompted me to do some testing regarding the other issue I mentioned about ATF/metadata, so I'm going to update the other thread with this information as well.

@Aminifu

Thanks for suggesting MIP, first time hearing about it and I've been looking for something like that for a while. It's a bit unclear if it can figure out the BPM at the moment, but the audio fingerprinting analysis seems very interesting (albeit very time consuming).

Unfortunately I'm having quite a bit of issues working with it.
I don't want to hijack this thread but adding some information that may be relevant...

1) MIP won't scan files on mapped network drives without elevated privileges (Start as Administrator)
2) In elevated mode, MIP has no access to mapped network drives unless you modify some registry (See: https://woshub.com/how-to-access-mapped-network-drives-from-the-elevated-apps/)
3) After modifying the registry, analysis still fails on FLAC files, but MP3s seems OK
4) Failing analysis on FLAC files seems like a known issue on exFAT drives. Copying to an NTFS drive may fix some issues, but not always. (See: https://forums.slimdevices.com/forum/user-forums/ripping-encoding-transcoding-tagging/93668-musicip-analysis-in-windows-7-failing/page3)

That last issue is kind of a deal breaker for me as 90% of my library consists of FLAC and copying my entire library to an NTFS drive is just not possible. I would have to do it in batches and it would take forever with the size of my library.

Would be wonderful if Wacup integrated MIP fingerprinting and/or something like Mixmeister BPM Analyzer (this was free a while ago but it looks like they changed their license). Mostly looking for a way to read/add the BPM metadata on all my files and create dynamic playlists based on the sound signature of a song (i.e: 'Find more songs like the selection').

General Discussion / Re: Custom (ATF) in Album Art Settings

You could also consider using a tool like Bulk Rename Utility to easily rename all those files and remove the '0', unless it serve a certain purpose.

It's a must-have to rename multiple files across multiple folders.

Just wanted to thank you for getting this done!

Updated to the latest preview build and this works like a charm, I can now reorganize my playlists, Yayyy! :-)

Thank you Dro!  :-*

Howdy,

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I figured maybe it would be worth it to get an update on this feature directly here instead of creating a new topic.

Since my library is fairly well sorted I often find myself using the right-click 'Play in Winamp' / 'Enqueue in Winamp' contextual menu so I was a bit bummed when I found about this thread.

I tried to replace winamp.exe with wacup's exe but alas it's not that simple (not sure what I expected here lol).

It seems what @donwiss suggested is the best option at the moment, adding Wacup to the 'Send To' contextual menu works, albeit not having the ability to enqueue a folder to the current playlist. (Instructions here: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-customize-the-send-to-menu-in-windows).

Hope we get to see Wacup fully integrated in the contextual menu eventually :-)

Again, really appreciate what you're doing Dro!

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply Dro! Didn't expect that haha :-)

Here's a little screen capture of me trying to move around the playlists from the navigation tree handling (I did enable playlists child nodes as it's the default in Winamp AFAIK). As you can see it's very hit-or-miss and sometimes the playlist moves in a totally different place.

I don't really mind not having the ability to move the playlists in the in-view pane as it also looks like it's going to be a more complex issue. As long as the order we set in the navigation tree is reflected in the in-view pane, this wouldn't bother me.

Appreciate all that you're doing!

Cheers :-)

Just wanted to chime in that I'm also hoping for this feature to be added.

I just recently switched from Winamp to Wacup and I regularly create playlists that I'm re-ordering manually.

From the left pane in the ML, it seems I'm only able to nudge the playlist up or down one position, but it's a but finicky and tedious with dozens of playlists.

If I use the main Playlist window, it seems Wacup wants to add the entire playlist to another playlist when we drag-and-drop. Cool feature but I'd rather be able to reposition the lists.

Hope this can be considered :-)
