Edit tag WMA song
« on: November 22, 2020, 04:17:26 PM »
Hello
I'm new thanks to dro to solve my installatio problem

I'm testing the public version and i cannot edit tag from WMA file.

With winamp 5.66 I can edit tag directly by double-click in the song title played.See printscreen
With wacup V1.0.13.5864 july 23 2020, I cannot edit tag from wma files by double-click neither by alt+3 from the library or the playlist. See printscreen
Wacup show the DirectShow file info

With MP3 or OGG WACUP it’s working as the same as Winamp

The double-click issue is a problem with the preview build (possibly others) & seems to be working in my development build.

WACUP doesn't use the in_wma plug-in from 5.666 as it kept causing crashes. Instead it uses the DirectShow plug-in (in_dshow.dll) which is mostly ok for playback but it doesn't offer tag writing support for WMA files. Tag writing in general is a mess with Winamp/WACUP & will eventually be improved. Until then, I don't have an in-progress change that would help with editing WMA tags.

shame
SureI have another program to edit tag. but Wacup is useful to correct tag when listening.
Winamp Tag managing is not working well for cover but for taging song by song it's enough.
I rate all songs and i'm fed up to lost my rating then i add my rate in the comment field. It's easy to use tag edit directly in wacup.
I tried to use in_wv.dll  from winamp instead wacup but doesn't work. OK

there never was a in_wv.dll shipped with winamp, unless you mean in_wm.dll
as it stands with the current WACUP builds, getting in_wm.dll is very spotty and is generally not recommended to be used with WACUP as it causes it to crash very quickly

I appreciate it's a shame but using a plug-in that kept crashing from trying to interact with it normally is why I dropped in_wma & even block it loading. Also this is why wacup is a preview as I'm trying to provide something that generally works whilst to use a car analogy, changing everything whilst you're sat driving it along. Tag updates will be improved over time but that's not my priority at the moment - not relying on using winamp's core program files is my main aim to no longer need to use.

Hi mts,

Since you use the WACUP Media Library. Do you know there is an option to save ratings to the digital file itself for compatible formats? This option is on the WACUP Preferences Media Library Options tab. It is turned off by default.

This can be used in addition to using the metadata comments field for formats that support it, to help prevent losing your ratings.

Hi Aminifu
i didn't know this features
I tryed but i don't know to use it.
I rated a song. The last modified time of file was uptaded. Then i guessed the rating is now somewhere in the file.
How can i see the rate writed in the file?
It's a ogg file then i saw nothing in the tag with wacup neither in a tag editer in one tab in the print screen here under

Hi mts,

You should have a smart view in your media library called "Top Rated". This shows files with a rating of 3 or higher. You can edit this smart view or create another that will show the ratings for all your files.

Before we go down another rabbit hole, saving the rating into the file metadata isn't fully supported at the moment (primarily due to it being down to each input plug-in to offer support & that isn't the case) along with all of the other issues from shared file locking, etc.

If it's critical to usage then you need to either use Winamp (and it's associated issues) or do it via an external tag editor as  I can't provide a proper solution for this issue anytime soon.

Hi Dro
I managed with the comments field since a long time. I will continue as i did to save ratting.
Sure when saving the rate in files will be present i will use it

I prefered to have a way to update tag in wma. Even i cannot have this feature i will keep using winamp or Wacup. WMA is not my prefered format but i still have many songs with WMA to rate or update.

For the moment i will edit with winamp instead of wacup or external editor.

Hi Aminifu

I know hpw to see rating in winamp library but i'm waiting for a data directly in the file. But for the moment this feature doesn't work. Perhaps for some input plugin.

I can appreciate what you're saying. Maybe you should consider disabling (i.e. graying out) WACUP Preferences that are not yet suitably supported. I look for all options available in the apps I use, even if I'm happy with their default configurations. I know I'm not the typical user.

Ratings is another feature that I don't use since I only save songs in my collection that I like or really like. Therefore they all would have 4 or 5 stars. What I know about saving ratings is from reading the comments from those who rate their songs. :)
