Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #12990 (September 24th 2022) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #7236 (March 11th 2021) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

The option added a couple of beta builds back to freeze classic skins windows positions goes a long way toward satisfying the reason for this request. Thank you for adding it.

I don't use WACUP to play video files, but I assume the related improvements in this area are also appreciated.

General Discussion / Re: Search Syntax

When you do a general search for anything (word or phrase), all the metadata in your files is looked at. The word "and" could be in 1 or more categories, such as the artist tag, album tag, title tag or some other tag. As you see, a short word could be contained in a larger word. Also, depending on the view you're using to search in, the results returned may or may not show the metadata tag that the word (or larger word) was found in.

You can use the Query Language features to make a custom search query to filter stuff in or out of the search. This is easier said than done. The documentation for the Query Language can be found in the dialog used to edit a Local Library smart view. Select 1 of these views (on the left-hand side of the ML window) and press the "F2" function key, then look near the bottom right-hand side of the edit dialog window that appears for the "Query Help..." button.

After closing the Query Language documentation window, be sure to cancel the smart view edit window to keep from making any accidental changes to the view.

Waiting until I can upgrade to a hi-res monitor [...]

How did you use JVC Tape on a low resolution monitor?

I use the sizing command to scale the 3 main components back.  I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor, 79% works well for me.  :)

But I find Vic's BBM more useful.

Yeah, I don't use it much, but I like it too. Waiting until I can upgrade to a hi-res monitor so that I can truly appreciate it.

Hi,

Attached is another screenshot of the ZDL Gold Stack skin. Some of it's component windows can be switched to compact mode (as shown with the equalizer). The bars in the spectrum analyzer window can change colors and modes.

Modern Skin Fans

This and the next post contain screenshots of the current default layouts for 6 of my favorite modern skins. Other windows are available in each skin for additional features (e.g. media library, queue manager, jump to file, etc.) as needed. The animated features in these skins must be seen to properly appreciate what these skins can do. There are 2 screenshots of the Komodo skin to showcase 2 of it's various views. I have added simple customizations (mostly to the graphics) to all but the Media Tower skin.

I'm drawn to skins with animated speakers. I added those from JVC Tape to the skins that didn't have their own.

Skins / Re: Question about WACUP version of Winamp Modern
« on: August 02, 2022, 04:12:43 AM »
Yes, build #12330 resolves the issue with the Winamp Modern skin. Thank you.   :D

It also blocks the use of a modern skin's album art window when the gen_classicart plug-in is enabled. So, I no longer need to use the workaround I came up with. Too bad for anyone who wants to use both. :)

[edit 3]
It's due to the attribs.m that a load of the scripts for that skin include as it's self-adding the menu item which I realised once finding that file & looking at the xml I'm blocking which is set to use nomenu=1 so the script(s) can do what's needed. Will need to try something out with the menu insertion handling but at least the window is gone without issues so that's something.

-dro

Thank you dro for taking time to look into this.

The WACUP version of Winamp Modern (WM) appears to be a special case where an inactive extra Album Art menu command is displayed, when albumart.xml is not loaded. I have installed over 20 modern skins that provide an album art window (via an albumart.xml file and it's associated script file) and only WM works this way.

Displaying an extra Album Art menu command, when albumart.xml is not loaded, is annoying (nothing happens when it is clicked) and wastes space in the menu.

I agree that skinners who use the albumart.xml file in their skins shouldn't remove it. Those who prefer to use the classicart plug-in should find a way to block loading the file, like I did. However, it would be easier for the average user if WACUP could block it, when the plug-in is enabled for modern skins. Sorry if this will require another preferences option. I suppose there could even be some who would want to be able to use either or both album art windows.

Dealing with what WM is doing is another matter. I hope you find an uncomplicated way of handling that.

Skins / Question about WACUP version of Winamp Modern
« on: August 01, 2022, 01:15:33 AM »
Hi Eris (or anyone with an answer),

I'm using the "gen_classicart.dll" plug-in to provide the album art window for all the classic and modern skins I use. Initially, this resulted in 2 Album Art (Alt+A) commands being displayed in the main right-click menus for the modern skins that provide their own album art windows. One for the plug-in and one for the window provided by the skin.

So, I disabled the loading of the "albumart.xml" file in the "skin.xml" file for all the modern skins that provide their own album art windows. This causes only 1 Album Art (Alt+A) command being displayed in the main right-click menus for all of these modern skins, except the WACUP version of Winamp Modern.

Any ideas on what else I need to do to make Winamp Modern only show 1 Album Art (Alt+A) command in it's main right-click menu? I have already tried renaming it's albumart.xml file (and it's associated script file), in case it was being loaded by something other than the skin.xml file.

Please excuse this interruption. I don't see the 3 options to the left of the search bar (in the screenshot above) in my ML audio view. I'm using the replacement library plug-in (ml_ll). Does it support these options and I've somehow turned them off? If so, how do I turn them back on?

What I've heard, from people trying to use the new Winamp release, is that changing version numbers and calling it a release candidate is just an attempt to convince users that something better than 5.8 is available. Beyond changing how the app is made (code compiled), it is no better, and in some aspects worse, than what is was when AOL sold it.

Skins / Re: Winamp3 Default Skin: The way it was meant to be
« on: July 21, 2022, 09:02:04 AM »
Hi Eris,

I've been looking at Winamp3 for other things I missed and found an issue with the Control Menu (accessed with the button on the top left corner of the standalone windows). Dro has not been able to find a reason for it with a similar response in another skin. It is probably due to bugs in gen_ff.dll.

The Control Menu provides the same 3 controls that are provided by the Window Settings in the main right-click menu. The scaling setting shown in the Control Menu is sometimes wrong. The setting shown for 1 window is sometimes not updated when shown for another window. The scaling setting shown is always correct for each window, when using the Window Settings in the main right-click menu.

This is the only issue I've found so far.

Ok, thank you for pointing out what I wasn't noticing with my old eyes. :)

The double digits for minutes is a good change. Some of the songs I play are longer than 9:59 minutes. The symbol between the minutes and seconds looks more like an equal sign than a colon. I was able to edit it in the Refugee-Declassified skin, but don't see a way to do so here. I have scaled the main window to 125% and still had overlooked the LEDs to the left of the playback symbol. The bottom one is dimmer than the one on top and easy to miss, imo.

I first thought you were talking about the timing info at the bottom of the PE. Then I realized it must be something else, since WACUP has options to control the format for the total playlist playback time.
