Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Problems with album order/associative sorting
« on: October 28, 2024, 07:09:45 AM »
Hi,

Used to love winamp, new to WACUP, very happy with it on the whole but having some issues with how it queues up albums.

The "use limited 'associative' sorting" option in Media Library -> Local Library -> View Filters is behaving strangely for me. Although the description text says that it will help ensure that multi-disc albums are ordered correctly ("when sorting by album it will then sub-sort the results by disc & track to better group each part of an album"), it seems like it does the opposite. When I have this option enabled, and I double click a multi-disc album to play it, it seems to disregard the disc number tag.

So, while I would expect to see this:

1. Disc 1, track 1
2. Disc 1, track 2
3. Disc 1, track 3
4. Disc 2, track 1
5. Disc 2, track 2
6. Disc 2, track 3

I instead see this:

1. Disc 1, track 1
2. Disc 2, track 1
3. Disc 1, track 2
4. Disc 2, track 2
5. Disc 1, track 3
6. Disc 2, track 3

When I disable this option, it behaves as described in the first example — which seems counter to the description provided.

After noticing this, I decided to keep the option disabled so that my double/triple albums would be queued up in the proper order. Unfortunately, this introduced another problem: now, some* of my (single-disc) albums start playing from the second track when I double-click them, and the first track is sent to the bottom of the queue. Again, this behaviour is fixed when associative sorting is enabled — but this causes my double albums to be broken as described above.

One workaround I have figured out is to go to Sort -> Sort list by filename in the playlist editor pane. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to set this as automatic/default behaviour, so regardless of whether I have associative sorting enabled or disabled, I am forced to manually do this for some portion of my library — either my multi-disc releases or those albums whose opening tracks are arbitrarily shunted to the end of the queue.

*I have been unable to figure out why only a subset of my albums are affected in this way.

So — two questions:

1) Is there a way to set it so that the default behaviour of the playlist editor pane is to always automatically sort by filename?
2) Is there something about how the associative sorting option works that I am just failing to understand?

Thanks for reading.

Just to be clear — when I talk about double-clicking an album to play/queue it, I'm talking about the album thumbnail grid view I get when I have "local library" selected in the leftmost section of the media library pane. I don't experience any of the problems I mentioned when I select "audio" and double-click artists/albums from that view.

Running the 1.99.22.20202 build btw

Sorry for triple posting — figuring this out as I go...

Looks like I only get the behaviour I was complaining about when I'm browsing my entire local library. I added a new album view that replicates the album art grid that appears by default when "Local Library" is selected and I no longer get multi-disc albums appearing out-of-order in the playlist view when I select them.
