Title: Splash images for WACUP
Post by: victhor on January 04, 2019, 04:52:07 AM
I've been doing some splash screens to use with WACUP and give it a little more flavour. Feel free to download and use on your WACUP!

To replace your splash screen just put any of these files on your WACUP data folder (something like C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\WACUP) and rename it to splash.png.

Also, if you want to do some splash screens yourself, I'm uploading -on the next post- a transparent PNG you can use (a cut from the original with "Winamp" reconstructed from my files + WACUP label). Don't forget to post back here! Any ideas are welcome!

Transparent PNGs ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓

EDIT: Re-uploaded a better version (shinning eyes! can you see it??) + some variants:
1. With the "rocks" going down to the very bottom (IDK why I thought you guys would use a dark bottom)
2. One forming a peak so the right side stays clear
3. Vertical one, with fading rock so it blends nicely
4. Another vertical, but with the rocks not fading, leaving the llama on an Avatar-like floating rock XD

Enjoy.

Cool.. I used the blank one to make my own.  BTW, You can use Irfanview to combine images.  Load the background image you want and size it accordingly.  Then, click on Edit -> Insert Overlay/Watermark Image and pick the blank.png and set the Transparency to 0% if you want to completely replace the background.

Thought I might have had to install some other graphics program to use layers or combine the images.

Cool! If you like the end result you can share it here so we can build a nice collection, no?

Cool! I like how the middle one breaks the typical horizontal composition.

The middle one isn't intended for use as a splash. I just included it so you can see the whole picture.

Well, luckily WACUP SUPPORTS IMAGES OF ANY SIZE for Splash screen =)

*Capitals is used to call the attention of those passing by thinking "a portrait style would be nice" heh

Well, out of curiosity I tried it.
I see what you mean. It works much better than I expected !
I will add the PNG to the post above

Edit, no I won't, my access has expired so it goes here.
I did an 8bit version as it is a limited colour range, and does not suffer enough to notice (especially as it is not up for long)

Here's the one I did.  I did it more or less just to see if I could.

Tried my hand at this, looks pretty good so far.

Cool, I love to see how you guys engaged with it -I wasn't expecting it TBH-.
So, I've prepared a set of better PNGs for you to use on your next try-outs. I'll try to add it to the 2nd post (or get DrO to do it for me), these will be better cutted llamas (I've just noticed the llama has a softly shining eyes -only noticeable at 200%-, so I tried to keep that), more soft and with 3 variants, including a vertical one.

In the meantime, here's a minimalist one for the collection ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓

...and a few more abstracts

I love the abstract ones. Seems like the newer PNGs work way better than the original.

So, this would be a more official approach ;) (with images grabbed from the official logo's thread >> https://getwacup.com/community/index.php/topic,487.0.html )

Feel free to download and use on your WACUP!

Hey, guys!..:) One of the first things I've noticed in Preferences, after installing, was the "Show splash screen at startup" option.. and, OMG., there's a forum topic about it; nice, thank you so much!! :))

These are some very cool images made, it's a shame that I'll have to rotate them manually - to be able to enjoy all (how awesome would that option be, to be able to automagically get 'em to change on each load); & um, wish I had something to contribute, BUT what I can do is SINCERELY THANK EVERYBODY involved with everything about this WinAMP project - our beloved, ULTIMATE, MP3 player. =)

^^ And perhaps keep the splash image on for longer.. because the ones here in the thread are totally-beautiful! xD

EDIT: Oh, the Show splash screen at startup preference says:

Quote
(Note: Place a splash.png or splash.bmp in your settings folder to customise the image that's shown)
.. Except, where's the "settings" folder - and, as far as I've able to tell, there's no "splash.x" file anywhere, to be able to figure this out myself. Some help, please, while I'm sticking the splash images all-over-the-place to see what works? xF

EDIT: Right, got it!.. It is simply the local user AppData folder, to place a splash.png or splash.bmp file in:

Code: [Select]
%AppData%\WACUP
^^ Use the Run... box to get there, keyboard shortcut is: Windows logo key + R (https://www.techrepublic.com/article/the-complete-list-of-windows-logo-keyboard-shortcuts/) (Opens teh Run dialog box :))

Splash images are supposed to be displayed momentarily as the main app is loading. The time it takes depends on your computer system (age and configuration). My system only takes a few seconds to load WACUP and I like it that way.

If dro decides to allow the splash images to be displayed longer, I hope it will be done as an option with the current behavior as the default.

I don't intend on changing how long its shown for as it's purely there whilst things are loading & are somewhat unresponsive / not fully loaded. Having it stay there after that would actually be counterintuitive as it's then blocking access to the ui.

Small update related to splash screen support, WACUP v1.0.17 & newer will have support to make use of transparency in loaded splash.png files for some more flexibility in the shape of the splash screen.
