Freeze Window Positions not working as expected
« on: January 27, 2026, 05:11:51 PM »
This might be a little complex. Maybe unsolvable IDK.
I have my HTPC connected to an 8K A/V receiver that connects to my display through eArc in 4K.

When I turn off my display, and it turns off the A/V receiver, the PC then swaps to 640x480...
For the most part this doesn't affect my windows/apps except for a few specific ones.
Unfortunately WACUP is one of those.
It sometimes moves the EQ and Playlist windows into the Main window.
But it always seems to widen the Playlist window.

I use the Triple Size option because 4K after all, and I have Windows' UI set to 200% so things look similar to how 1080p did.
So I figured I'd just have to enable Freeze Window Positions/States, except that doesn't seem to address any of the symptoms I'm experiencing. The Playlist still stretches, and the window positions still move sometimes.

Which version of Windows are you using?

Until I can try it out, it might be Windows trying to be helpful or it's from some of the handling to get off-screen windows to come back (which has been a whole series of problems in its own). The freeze action is more for blocking user interactions as the OS & other actions can override that from what I remember but most likely it's just me doing something wrong that's not cooperating.

Maybe something like https://github.com/kangyu-california/PersistentWindows might help... though I've currently not tested it but it seems like it might be matching what I think with it being an OS problem messing with things which another user has reported found that to help deal with what's going wrong.

Doesn't seem to work for WACUP.
The Main window goes back to where it was...

But the Playlist always stretches wider, often is above the bottom of the EQ window.
Sometimes the EQ window is similarly above the bottom of the Main window.

Very creative solution though! I liked testing that out.

I had a similar issue with a Denon HDMI receiver and fixed it by using an HDMI dummy monitor dongle on a secondary port of my HTPC, set as a duplicated display at the correct resolution.

There are plenty of these on AliExpress; here’s one example.
