Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

General Discussion / Extra plugins you may need
« on: January 02, 2021, 08:34:46 AM »
WACUP is very complete but there are a few extra file formats and input/output solutions you may need.
NOTE: Wacup already plays Shockwave Flash SWF files, so don't bother looking for a plugin.

Instructions say you need to install Realplayer or Realplayer Alternative.
You can use the Media Player Classic standalone RealMedia splitter instead.

OFR OptimFROG lossless audio input plugin by Florin Ghido.

Weird MPEG Variants will often play back on regular MP3 decoders, but will ignore extra data.
You may need a specific plugin to hear the extra frequency bands, channels or lossless audio.
You should convert any of these files to a better supported format and disable the plugin after being used.

General Discussion / VirusTotal info and tools
« on: September 01, 2020, 02:47:17 AM »
When using VirusTotal there are some caveats.
Most tools that check against VT will use a threshold minimum before triggering a warning (the more AV agree on a file, the more you can trust the result.)
The uploaded virus definitions can be up to 1 month behind.
Many of the AV are poor quality and detect anything new without a certificate as a threat. This does not mean it is a threat but means they operate a whitelist method like Microsoft.
May AV will give a free pass to malware if it has a valid cert, because they cannot actually detect bad behaviour only use their cruddy whitelisting.

A common reason for AV thinking a file is malware is due to installers which have also been used to package malware a lot. This can create a false association.
Some files hook or patch a file or location in RAM. This behaviour can seem malicious until investigated.

To upload files to VT via extensions and tools you will need an API key.
You get this for free with a free account.

Add VT lookups to Windows with Process Explorer an alternative taskmanager from Microsoft.
This will check all running tasks if you enable it.
Several other MS tools can also use VT, such as Autoruns which will check everything that loads automatically when you boot Windows and login.

If you want to know which AV ratings to pay attention to and which to ignore, check the AV test sites each month and pay attention to the false positive rates.

General Discussion / Last.fm scrobbler info
« on: June 30, 2020, 08:34:23 AM »
General notes for Last.fm scrobbler users

Ignore the new Last.fm scrobbler as it does not have a winamp plugin, or support the old one.
https://www.last.fm/download/windows
The old legacy scrobbler (v2.1.37) works fine but will install the plugin to Winamp plugins folder not WACUP.
It will be named either "gen_wa2_scrobbler.dll" or "ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll" (no idea why it varies but on my Win10 PC it has the "gen" prefix, and on the Win7 PC has the "ml" prefix).
Move it to the WACUP plugin folder and it will work.

Now importantly you need to update the OpenSSL libs to current secure versions.
You need branch 1.0.2 which is currently on life support phase, so expect updates to end soon.
https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/Binaries
You will want an x86 32bit build.
Copy the 2 DLL files to the last.fm program folder and overwrite the old ones.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Podcast art cache
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:02:17 PM »
Can the Podcast art please be saved to the podcast folder then used as cached artwork ?
Tick box option for using cached or fresh, per podcast.

Rationale and example:
Many podcasts have the 1 picture used for the main pic and the individual podcasts (most BBC podcasts).
Many podcasts have a main artwork and individual art per podcast.

I may have a constant connection but after 40gb my speed is reduced to 300kb during the day.
Often this means when I click on a podcast it takes up to 30 seconds saturating my DL with the artwork (crappy over sized images are not your fault or mine, but we suffer).
This means I have to wait 30 seconds before I can start listening.

Please can we have an option to use local art instead ?

Wishlist / Feature Requests / New Milkdrop defaults
« on: October 16, 2019, 06:53:45 AM »
I would like to suggest that the Milkdrop defaults are due for an update, and to get some user opinions.
The original defaults are based on the common GFX cards and CPUs of the era, but now it is safe to assume most people are using something made within the past 10-15 years with multiple cores, and much higher resolutions than back then.

My suggestions are for increased times for display of the current track and the transition times.
I will give my settings as an example you can try and give feedback perhaps with alternative values.
In the "Artist Tools" tab
Duration of song title animations = 5
Time between random song title anims = 30
Time between random custom messages = 20
Automatically show title when song changes = on

In the "Transitions" tab
Time between auto preset changes = 30
Additional random time = 10
Auto preset blend time = 30
User solicited blend time = 3

Disable Hardcuts is best to have off so you don't interrupt any transitions.

The author of Butterchurn was certainly impressed enough with the longer transitions to consider making the change in the web version, but he won't have had all the extra text effects blending with the visuals.
Try for a while and play with the settings. Nothing in those 2 tabs with dramatically affect the speed of the visuals or processing needs.
The stuff in the previous tab "More Settings" is probably fine as it is, though maybe we could  push the mesh size up 1 or 2 notches.

General Discussion / Missing fonts for Milkdrop
« on: September 13, 2019, 01:56:39 AM »
The default Milkdrop message file (milk2_msg.ini) uses old fonts you won't have with modern Windows.
If you wish to see the default text as intended, here are the 3 missing fonts.

century gothic
garamond
monotype cordova

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Grinch mode
« on: April 18, 2019, 12:45:23 AM »
Can we have a Grinch/Grouch/Scrooge mode in the media lib options please ?
I have a whole bunch of Christmas mashups that I would rather not listen to until December.
Mostly I listen to everything I have on random and so manual skipping is a pain as the entertainment laptop is not the one I sit at.

A separate filter where we can put -christmas -xmas -holiday etc. would be so good it would be like an early Christmas present !

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Dual Output
« on: March 12, 2019, 04:32:30 AM »
MPC-BE has an optional second output, so you can use a currently ignored device.
Can we have this ?
Enabling a second output may mean you can have surround sound from a basic PC or laptop.
eg. front pair via line out, and the rear via a bluetooth device.

There may be argument for adding more so 5.1 and up is supported, but as those extras are for a bass and 1 centre which don't match I would argue nobody will have that unless home-made.
I'm not saying nobody could use a 3rd output, just that it would need to filter the frequencies back to a normal pair so would need more coding.
Maybe the AC3 input can do the filtering already, but I doubt the AAC/MP4 decoder does.

General Discussion / WACUP Windows start buttons

A couple of WACUP start buttons for use with OpenShell / ClassicShell.
Maybe not the most useful but feel free to do better.

As the waveform display is a standard feature for WACUP, it could be used to select a range in it, and when converting the file, it only converts the selected range ?

Optionally the ability to export the election with no re-encoding would be a bonus.

The idea came after suggesting the ability to call an external tool such as an editor, but then I realised that certain basic tasks could be done with Winamp.

Currently I use MP3 Direct Cut a lot while listening to long mixes or podcasts etc. when I want to cut a snippet.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Send to External tool
« on: July 13, 2018, 07:47:08 PM »
OK here is a nice easy one.

Can we have the option to add an external tool, to the send to menu ?
Send to editor, for example would be useful.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / AnimGIF support
« on: July 11, 2018, 11:41:41 PM »
Support for animated artwork would be nice
I have loads of animated album covers but forgot about them as they don't animate in Winamp.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Artist / Band Info lookup
« on: July 08, 2018, 04:17:40 AM »
Have you thought about using the Last.fm API to populate the "Show Info" panel in the media library ?
It is extensive and contains info on lots of independent and obscure obscure artists.
Being wiki based also means nobody has anyone but them self to blame for the fave new local band, or random find in a junk shop having no info.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / URL tag Ideas
« on: July 08, 2018, 03:58:23 AM »
How about using the URL metatag for something ?

eg. right or double click option for the artwork to open the URL if present.
If present, added to the info panel.

If the URL tag contains an RSS link, then use that to populate the info panel.
That way people can add the news feeds from the relevant band site or blog.

When downloading podcasts auto-add the feed URL to the metatag PODCASTURL.
Then when setting up on a fresh system for example, your old podcast collection can be used to repopulate the podcast section.
This could either be a tick box set for use during scanning your media as normal, or as an "Import Podcasts" option. eg. available when you right click on the root Podcast icon
This would help sync things for people that use multiple PCs with an external drive.
