Latest WACUP public preview for x86 & x64 is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)
Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #20686 (December 23rd 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

APE Tags causing crash
« on: December 29, 2024, 09:29:15 AM »
Hi,

I've really been putting this bug in the back burner because of social anxiety (lol). I've created lots of crash reports because of this.

I've used to use StationPlaylist which adds APE tags to any files it plays. Some specific wacup change on a certain release caused those files to become unplayable. Wacup instantly hangs and crashes when trying to play them.

My suspicion is due to weird configuration of both ID3 and APE tags included in the file. For example, binary data of the time the song last played. If I remove or mess with tags, the file becomes playable on wacup again.

I attached an example file.

I am using latest public build and I also tried it in safe mode. I have no way of checking if its fixed in the latest private beta build.

I've just had a quick look & it's crashing within the re-used in_mp3 plug-in from the 5.666 installer for which I'd been wondering what was going on. My testing is against the current beta build so really it's not WACUP build specific but is the in_mp3 plug-in at fault & is probably more luck than anything with it not having caused problems with whatever the older build was it was working for you.

The x64 build of WACUP doesn't use that plug-in though it's still to get its own proper in_mp3 replacement but it doesn't crash with that file so if you're not needing to use any of the modern style skins nor any 3rd party plug-ins then that's an option to consider using.

Will see if there's anything obvious I can do to work around whatever in_mp3 is doing as like you I'd like to see far fewer crash reports too :)

There's now a change in place for the next build which hopefully will allow in_mp3 to behave whilst not causing a live patch that was in place to resolve another issue from occurring which appears to have been conflicting with what the input plug-in is doing with APEv2 tags.

Thanks so much and letting me know about x64. I can try x64. The issue is I do use the Stereo tool Winamp plugin.

I will definitely wait for the next public build (since that's only what I have access to).

I hope the beta builds go well
