Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

There should be a .ini file in AppData\Roaming\WACUP that has all your settings.

There isn't a fully functional WACUP backup app at the moment.

There is more than 1 important .ini file in your WACUP user data folder and there are other files that also contain configuration and usage data. I suggest you manually make a copy of everything in your WACUP user data folder and it's sub-folders. Some of these files are updated each time you shutdown WACUP. Check their date modified value in the Explorer details view. From time to time replace your old copy of these files with their latest version.

Important to note that, if your install is a portable one, you'll find a "Settings" folder within the installation folder of WACUP, if it's a non-portable install, you'll find it in %APPDATA%\WACUP

Hi,

Are you talking about the non-portable install of the Preview Build? The non-portable install of the Beta Build doesn't have a "Settings" folder.

Ok, but my non-portable beta install of WACUP doesn't have a "Settings" sub-folder in my user data folders or anywhere else.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "it" in the phrase, "you'll find it in %APPDATA%\WACUP".

Non-portable installs behave like a normal Winamp installation, where everything is stored in your user folder (winamp.ini, ml related stuff), which is what I referred to as "it"

Portable installs have those settings within the installation folder (although 3rd-party plugins are disabled, which isn't the case for Non-portable installs), as you can then easily have WACUP on the go on a flash drive, hopefully this makes it a bit more clearer

Hi Eris,

Yes, what you are saying is clear to me now. It matches what I know about portable and normal installations.

It is true that 3rd party plug-ins are disabled by default in portable installs. However there is a Preferences option that lets them be installed and activated for portable installs.

The Winamp backup tool partially works with WACUP but as I've been changing some of the settings files used (e.g. the local library & history db files in recent beta builds) it means that tool doesn't recognise the changed files.

I'm probably going to have to remove (temporarily) the backup|restore preferences page or just leave it & add a note about it now being incomplete.

In future I'm probably going to look to offer a built-in backup/restore mode than relying on external tools which need to be updated & waiting for them to adopt any changes (which I can't rely on when they're provided by those not using WACUP). There's also other things that I've got in mind to make migrating settings between an install to be simpler as there's still too many fixed file paths being used which make a backup/restore only really useful if everything is following the same folder layout & that's definitely not something that tends to happen from what I've seen over the years.

I'm also somewhat saddened that what I thought was a relatively obvious to find option in the preferences wasn't found which would have negated most of the need for this thread.
