Latest WACUP public preview for x86 & x64 is build #20202 (September 28th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)
Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #20686 (December 23rd 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Files associations
« on: June 16, 2024, 08:55:32 AM »
Hi
I use wacup 1.0.21.7236 for a few years now
I would like to upgrade (no Beta) but if I understand well, the latest stable version (1.99.15.19320) does not support files association (I'm on Windows 10)
What's the use without it ? I double click on a .mp3 files and wacup doesn't launch ?
Please clarify this situation so I know if there is something to do about it
Thank you for you constant work on Wacup, waiting to be able to use the latest version :)

All WACUP builds are effectively beta builds, is just whether they're limited access or public (hence the preview moniker).

WACUP can be manually associated to open files but it doesn't provide any information to the OS on what it supports - there is no difference in that distinction between build 7236 & 19320 (or any other build).

If you've got an existing WACUP install & directly update it then any custom associations should still work. If it's a completely new / test install to check things out then you'd have to manually associate things to it & tbh that's no different than would be needed even if it was reporting what it supported to the OS when having to go into the default file association prefs within the OS itself.

Thank you for replying
Installed latest version and working great so far ♥♥
Still, there are 3 things I would ask you consider to add (if not already hidden somewhere ;)

1- In the Multi Content View, I would like to see track number AND total track (of album or playlist) like 4/12 instead of 4

2- When left clicking on the Cover art area, left to the Multi Content View, I would like my browser to open Google IMAGE with Artist and title tags as search text (for single (not album) cover search)

3- An easy way to re-start a track at 0:00 when playing a track, especially difficult (with the mouse) when it play the first seconds of the track. One way could be the possibility to configure the "Previous Track" button (which I never use) as "start the track at the beginning.

Thank again for a great program i couldn't (musically) live without :)

Just click the play button again to restart a track.

I use a modern skin called "Defix Hi-End" (it is attached below). It can be configured to display the playing track's albumart in it's playlist editor window (select the skin settings command in WACUP's main right-click menu). When you right-click on the image you get a pop-up that lets you start a google album art search in your default browser.

If you have entered the corresponding metadata in the playing track's media library record, when you left-click on the headings (title, artist or album) to the right of the albumart image it starts a google search in your default browser for the data listed.

If I left click, it just Play/Pause, no restart... If I right click, the cover art reload and I have a 1/4 second sound interruption.
Did not find a way to restart the song....

What skin are you using, that combines the play and pause functions? All the classic and modern skins I use, work as I stated. When I left-click the play button (not the pause button) in their main player window, playback starts over. If I right-click it, I get a sub-menu that lets me select other commands.

If the default functions of the main player window's play button have been changed in your configuration, the fastest way to get them back is to do a clean reinstall of the app.

What I am looking for is an easy way to find the cover of a song TO DOWNLOAD it and then add it the the .mp3 file...

That is mainly what I use the skin that I suggested for. I let the skin start the google search for the album or artist, then I select "images" at the top of the returned page. This shows me multiple images that I can then right-click on and download whichever one I want to my computer. I then use MP3tag (there are many other apps that can be used) to embed the downloaded image file in the mp3 file I want it in.

MP3tag can also play the music file, search for and show you various images that you can select from to embed, which I suppose is the easiest and fastest thing to do. But I like to use WACUP to play my music files and the steps I outlined above are easy enough for me to do while listening to my music.

For variety, I often use different images for songs from the same album to keep from having multiple files with the same image.

Well it is not as simple as one may think. This idea has been discussed on the forum before. You can use the forum's search feature to look for the related posts or wait to see if dro will take time out to provide his thoughts on the matter. He is doing all the development work on WACUP by himself and a lot of the webmaster stuff for this forum as well, so it may take him a little while to get to you.

One thing to think about is that many songs are released as stand-alone items (which is not a new thing). They may take a while or never get added with other songs on an album. Another thing, is how to best handle things technically. A single x/y data entry or 2 separate x and y entries.

Also for showing the total track number, I thought it was easy because already implemented in the Left corner notification, I hoped to have the same thing in the main player...

Just click the play button again to restart a track.

I think it's a very reasonable request, since mobile players (and maybe desktop players too...?) tend to allow you pressing the previous button to restart a song (after 5 seconds have passed or so), and with the Winamp style keyboard shortcuts (z, x, c, v, b), it'd only be fitting
Maker of Plugins, I suppose.

Hi Ysl,

Your first post in this thread was answered by dro, the developer. As you see, even with all he does by himself, he does take time to respond to those who take the time to post stuff.

It looks like you are using the Big Bento Modern or Big Bento Modern Windows 10 edition modern skin. When I point to the pause button on the versions I have, I get a tooltip that says if I right-click then the playing item will restart (which does just that for me). Maybe you are not using the latest version of these skins. I have version 1.2.3 of both.

What you see in the top left corner of the pop-up notifier (in your screenshot) is the playlist order number of the playing item followed by the total number of items in the playlist. I'm not saying that some way to provide the order number of an album item followed by the total number of album items should not be provided. I'm just saying it may not be a simple thing to do.
