Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18980 (April 24th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #18980 (April 24th 2024) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Internet Radio Features wish list
« on: April 10, 2021, 10:49:59 PM »
I will listen to Internet radio for weeks and then get a whim and start listening to my local library for weeks using Wacup (I am retired and spend a some time at home), I have been using a program specifically for internet radio listening called TapinRadio, Its pretty reliably but not to feature rich (I think they offer better options), I think I paid one time $20 (usd). I manipulate the fields in the "favorites" to show the fields that are important to me Genre, Bitrate, and if the station uses commercials or not, to me these are the most important fields primarily because I cant stand commercials.

My Suggestions for the Wacup Internet Radio capabilities:
1) Ability to set more than one Streaming URL,  not sure how important this is but I believe if one server has too many listeners it will reject your attempt to connect, Tapin will automatically check up to three streams.
2) Some ability to customize the user station (and downloaded stations) to sort on different fields including custom user fields.  I assume "user stations" do not get overwritten when the on-line database is downloaded...
3) Ability to export a "User Stations" file for backup purposes.
4) A great feature would be the ability to parse the bitrate of each station and be able to sort on it but probably not practical with an ever changing database ?
I have attached a view of a TI favorite.

I don't know where the internet radio on-line database comes from but maintaining and tracking a moving target does not sound like anything easy, many popular Internet Radio stations move around allot. When I loose a station I go to "https://www.internet-radio.com" to attempt to get a new URL. Tapin offers a downloaded station list also.

After my last install I still have not been able see any stations in the Wacup downloaded database, even after deleting the two recommended files to force a re-download. Also I have not found a way to store anything in the "User Stations". To test Wacup's internet radio capability I have been using File -> Play URL and then sending the station to bookmarks. see attached

I have resisted using services like Shoutcast because I have no control of the commercials & bitrate but I do appreciate the convenience, I do not fit their primary listening audience of phone users.

My 2 Cents worth

General Discussion / Wackup Won't Start or Delayed Start, My fault...
« on: April 09, 2021, 06:05:10 PM »
I dragged a folder with my entire music collection in it to the playlist editor, it took a few hours to load, then I sent it to a playlist, primarily to get a report of the number of items & duration as I am editing the collecting and wanted to see the progress since the last edit.
Somewhere along the line I closed and re-started Wacup with the playlist still loaded...
a) Wacup would not re-start, I did not see it in the task manager and I did not scroll down to the background tasks to see that multiple instances of Wacup was actually running.
b) I searched the forum and started performing troubleshooting tips on the "Wackup Won't Start" Thread.
c) I attempted to re-install but received error messages because the files that needed to be written were open or in use.
d) I finally performed a clean install and lost ALL my customization, playlists & some internet radio stations that were bookmarked.
e) After Wacup was re-installed I did it again (dragged my entire music collection in it to the playlist editor), after it loaded I closed Wacup, then re-started Wacup and walked away, 3 hours later I checked and Wacup was up and running so I assume the large playlist caused the problem.

The playlist I created was impractical and maybe their is a better way to do what I did but I'm posting this comedy of errors as I have found that if I did this eventually someone else will do it. Not sure how easy it would be to put a "stupid" error message for this type of action, Wacup would have to have some way to evaluate the folder attributes and show a warning message.

Anyway Dont Do This!

Wishlist / Feature Requests / FLAC support
« on: February 23, 2021, 10:33:56 PM »
As an embedded systems hardware engineer and have been involved with many firmware / software validation projects and am aware how important it is to have a plan and stick with it when it comes to this type of development, that being said...
Last year I started to convert my collection from mp3 to FLAC, about 700 CDs, and had to start using MusicBee to play my FLAC content. I'm not knocking MusicBee it has some great features but Winamp/WACUP is so much more intuitive for me not to mention I have been a Winamp user for almost 20 years.
I cant imaging the time and effort that has been put into the WACUP project and I don't want to make anyone feel that I don't appreciate it,
but I am just wondering if their is a guess about when WACUP might implement FLAC support?

Just an FYI...
I have been using MP3TAG (https://www.mp3tag.de/en/) for a while, he just recently started supporting naming each embedded image, I thought (assumed) that this was compliance with a standard.

I Drag & Drop albums (folders) into the playlist window, this has been working for the last few (maybe all) versions of WACUP. Right-click context menus will be nice when it happens, after it is added it will likely need to be debugged over numerous releases...

Preview Build Discussion / Re: Winamp does not resume from sleep
« on: March 31, 2020, 07:06:31 PM »
I remember my confusion when I initially looked at the output plugins option and saw what appears that almost every output plugin option is checked (see attached), but when I click on the configure button I get a "Nullsoft Direct Sound" config dialog.
Your Idea  to "halt playback itself when it detects a sleep commencing & then restore the playback position when it's re-loaded" sounds like a great method to resolve the issue.
I just messed around a little and noticed that when Winamp is closed (File -> Exit) it resumes the playback position and starts playing even if winamp was paused when it was closed.

I really appreciate you & your teams hard work!

Preview Build Discussion / Winamp does not resume from sleep
« on: March 27, 2020, 04:38:41 PM »
I have a dedicated windows 10 computer in my stereo cabinet that I use for internet radio and to play my sum what large digitized music library.
I set up the computer to be as "wife friendly" as possible, I designated one of the buttons on the computer to put the computer to sleep, we
use this button to turn off our music system every night, the next morning we push the power button on the computer to wake up the system and
start playing our music, typically within 30 seconds all applications except winamp starts playing where they left off, but Winamp does not resume and must
be manually re-started regardless of the settings in winamp.
Not a big deal but should probably be added to the bug list.
