Title: Suggestion Support For DSD And SACD Files
Post by: DJboutit on May 27, 2021, 03:26:47 AM
WACUP needs to add support for DSD and SACD files I see a lot more people lately on a few Reddit subs and Discord servers looking for DSD and SACD albums time to add support in WAUP.  I think both of these are mega overkill I am fine with my 150k traxx at 500kbps OGG the sound just fine with my computer running into Kenwood KR 5030 reveicer and Polk Audio RT 16 Floor speakers

Agree. Even if I think FLAC 16bits/44.1khz sounds just fine. DSD is becoming "more popular".  I have two album in this format at the moment and my DAP can play it fine, my AVR can play it too but not my PC with Winamp/Wacup. That's nonsense.

Yes it is I do not like that DSD albums like 4gb to 5gb OGG albums are like 175mb to 250mb 16bit FLAC albums are like 425mb to 600mb

I can have like 30 to 37 albums in OGG for one DSD album

Foobar2000 AIMP and Musicbee can play DSD just fine WACUP can not

Try this, I've no idea if it works or not.
I doubt it's really "mandatory" for WACUP to support format x, sure it's a nice to have thing and all, but keep in mind that WACUP is being developed by one guy and secondly that WACUP still retains Winamp's plugin architecture, meaning you can add plugins to your own liking, if you can find them that is.

And they're not having to go through the effort of trying to catch-up whilst re-creating almost 15 years of Winamp development.

As for the needs aspect, there is technically DSD support already with WACUP but it has to be from within a WavPack file though I assume the request is for standalone DSD files for which there isn't support (but there is the 3rd party plug-in as noted above). Until I allocate the time to look into what is involved with DSD, I don't have much else to say about the request.

Hi,
It is functioning but the reading of the metadata is not working correctly (with id3v2.3 tag and dsf file for me).

That'll most likely be because the input plug-in isn't handling the metadata requests needed.

If it's functioning for you, you're getting a better result than me. It does a whole lot of nothing for me.
