Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #18916 (April 18th 2024) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / ML History View Column Heading Change
« on: March 07, 2024, 04:03:06 PM »
The column currently named "Title" in the history view doesn't display the file's title. It displays the playlist editor's string for the file that was played. I suggest the column's heading be changed to correctly indicate what is being displayed (or change the column's content to match it's heading).

Wishlist / Feature Requests / List of Loaded Plug-ins
« on: January 26, 2024, 07:18:05 PM »
Hi dro,

Currently it is fairly easy to determine what plug-ins are in a WACUP configuration, via the advanced diagnostics provided. The default and enabled plug-ins are loaded as needed. The running statistics on the WACUP preferences about tab list the number of currently loaded plug-ins. How about including a drop down list of what they are. I can probably correctly guess what they are and most users probably don't care, as long as WACUP works as needed, but it would be nice not to have to guess.

Skins / wasabi.list.text.selected.background.inactive
« on: January 25, 2024, 04:25:22 AM »
Split from Ariszló’s Study Skin released.

All 22 modern skins in my collection load just fine with WACUP beta version 18106. I have had lockups and 2 crashes after normal playback for at least an hour that seem to be related to media library database issues, but dro doesn't know for sure yet.

I'm assuming they all do, but how do I check if they have a colour definition for wasabi.list.text.selected.background.inactive?

General Discussion / Does WACUP support dithering?
« on: October 14, 2023, 05:44:17 AM »
Hi dro,

Winamp has, and early beta versions of WACUP had, a preferences option to enable or disable dithering in the playback group of options. This option in WACUP was removed several beta versions ago. I see that the recent out_neo.dll plug-in lists a dither filter in it's list of processing filters. If WACUP does support dithering via this plug-in, do you plan on providing a way to disable it?

I've read that dithering is the process of adding a small amount of random noise to a digital audio signal in order to reduce the distortion caused by quantization error. This technique is crucial for maintaining audio quality during the conversion process from analog to digital, and it can greatly improve the overall sound of a digital recording.

I don't know what kind of dithering (if any) was used by the encoders used to make my mp3s. I also don't know what the dither filter in out_neo.dll does. I don't think there is any significant distortion in my mp3s, but being able to disable the dither filter in out_neo.dll will let me tell if I can hear any difference with it enabled or disabled (and which sounds better).

What is left to be done before WACUP is able to embed albumart in mp3s again?

Skins / Graphic Equalizer window of the JVC Tape v1.2 modern skin
« on: July 15, 2023, 06:53:51 PM »
@Active Skinners,

The left and right channels for the 18 band spectroscope on the graphic equalizer window of the JVC Tape skin respond exactly the same. It's looking like my stereo tracks are mono.  I can clearly hear the difference between the left and right channels in most of my music. It would be nice if these left and right channels simulated that, even if somewhat inaccurately.

I've been able to 'fix' this with other skins with similar animated displays. I've not been able to find the script(s) and/or xml files in this skin that control these channel responses. I want to change whatever is needed that would slightly alter the responses between these channels. I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

The current global method of maintaining the selected configuration of views within the media library appears to work well for classic skins, but not as well for modern skins.

More often than what I would like I have to re-configure these views when switching between modern skins due to unsolicited changes of set column widths. It happens most often with the history and playlist views. I have not had to re-configure when using and switching between classic skins. Since I mostly use modern skins, maybe I just have not seen the need to do so yet.

Any small inadvertent changes made when re-configuring then affects all skins. Maybe these configurations should be saved individually for each modern skin in the studio.xnf file. Unlike classic skins, the overall media library windows are not the same size with modern skins. A particular column width could work well for one modern skin, but not another.

The changelog for the current beta states a fix was made for this issue, but this fix is not working for me.

Skins / What Are Your Favorite Modern Skins?
« on: August 04, 2022, 11:23:56 PM »
Modern Skin Fans

This and the next post contain screenshots of the current default layouts for 6 of my favorite modern skins. Other windows are available in each skin for additional features (e.g. media library, queue manager, jump to file, etc.) as needed. The animated features in these skins must be seen to properly appreciate what these skins can do. There are 2 screenshots of the Komodo skin to showcase 2 of it's various views. I have added simple customizations (mostly to the graphics) to all but the Media Tower skin.

I'm drawn to skins with animated speakers. I added those from JVC Tape to the skins that didn't have their own.

Skins / Question about WACUP version of Winamp Modern
« on: August 01, 2022, 01:15:33 AM »
Hi Eris (or anyone with an answer),

I'm using the "gen_classicart.dll" plug-in to provide the album art window for all the classic and modern skins I use. Initially, this resulted in 2 Album Art (Alt+A) commands being displayed in the main right-click menus for the modern skins that provide their own album art windows. One for the plug-in and one for the window provided by the skin.

So, I disabled the loading of the "albumart.xml" file in the "skin.xml" file for all the modern skins that provide their own album art windows. This causes only 1 Album Art (Alt+A) command being displayed in the main right-click menus for all of these modern skins, except the WACUP version of Winamp Modern.

Any ideas on what else I need to do to make Winamp Modern only show 1 Album Art (Alt+A) command in it's main right-click menu? I have already tried renaming it's albumart.xml file (and it's associated script file), in case it was being loaded by something other than the skin.xml file.

I'm putting this suggestion in the 'nice to have' category, since there are already ways to accomplish the intent. Just not as easily.

It would be very beneficial to have a user initiated alternate way of saving window arrangements during a session, imo. Window positions are now saved during shutdown and sometimes they are lost between sessions. This usually affects classic skins when it happens, which is much less often with the improvements that have been made.

There is already a way to restore classic skin default arrangements. Similarly, modern skin windows can be returned to their default arrangements by allowing the studio.xnf file to be re-created. But then the windows need to be adjusted and moved back to where the user likes to have them. In addition, the studio.xnf file saves more than window arrangements and then this additional info needs to be recaptured over time as the skin is used.

It is easy for a point & click user to slightly move a window accidentally during a session, but not as easy to move it back where it was. Sometimes a crash causes an intentional re-arrangement to be lost. It would be good to have a way for window arrangements to be returned to the way they were at the start of a session during a session or saved before shutdown after an intentional re-arrangement. This would be especially useful during this beta testing period.

I've been trying to make backups of the winamp.ini and studio.xnf files between sessions (where most of the major window arrangement info is stored). Sometimes I restart WACUP several times a day and don't make these backups between each session. So usually when I need to use info from the backups to edit these files, it is not recent.

The improvements introduced in beta build #11906 are still working for me. When time allows can you make another to hide or minimize it's configuration window when WACUP loads? I would prefer it to be hidden since an icon shows up on the taskbar merged with WACUP's icon when it is minimized.

Being able to save the selected configuration between sessions is a great time saver. However, I've seen a very minor issue. The input gain value after a restart is "0.1" less than the value that was being used in the prior session.

Currently the option to update all songs listed is only offered when the ATF string is changed. When I load a playlist that was saved when a different ATF string was active, the songs listed are updated to the current ATF string 1 song at a time when the song is played. It would be convenient to be able to update the old ATF string for all the songs in the playlist all at once.

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Waveform Seeker Plug-in
« on: April 04, 2022, 01:13:31 AM »
Once the additional planned work on this plug-in is finished, would it be possible to add an option to allow the mirror image reflection (bottom half) of the waveform to be removed?

Wishlist / Feature Requests / Titles|ATF scroll speed in Classic skins
« on: January 31, 2022, 05:39:23 AM »
I would like to have options to control the scrolling speed like the "Text Scroll Speed" and "Move text by X number of pixels" available for modern skins. The current fixed speed is a little slow for my taste, especially for relatively long ATF strings.
