Latest restricted WACUP beta release is build #18654 (March 24th 2024) (x86 & x64 changelogs) | Latest WACUP public preview is build #17040 (September 30th 2023) (x86 only)

NOTE: Beta testers are added in a limited & subjective manner as I can only support so many people as part of the beta test program to keep it useful for my needs.

Unless I think you're going to be helpful, not all requests will be accepted but might still be later on. Remember that beta testing is to help me & the limitations currently works for my needs for this project.

Windows 10 CD autoplay
« on: May 13, 2020, 10:06:49 PM »
I am unable to get music (cda) cds to start using WACUP instead of WMP. I enabled in_cdda, but still WMP. I made sure cda is associated with WACUP, but still no WACUP on cd select > Play. Autoplay options only offer WMP.

Is there a registry tweak I need?

CDA isn't what needs to be registered & instead an autoplayhandler needs to be registered which WACUP in it's beta/preview state isn't doing as there isn't the working code to enable & in a number of places correctly handle the request that might come through. Trying to manually set the HKCR\AudioCD might do it but I've not fully researched all of this including CD autoplay so it might not be applicable depending the version of Windows.

The consensus among power users is that all kinds of autoplay should be disabled for security reasons, especially for USB sticks. Windows 10 can be customized and have separate autoplay settings for CD/DVD - read https://www.howtogeek.com/236241/how-to-enable-disable-and-customize-autoplay-in-windows-10/

However, autoplay is not very stable (see e.g. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-pro-cd-autoplay-not-working/3e72b503-96fb-406d-8298-e5da82a29241) and its behaviour can change anytime any new updates or builds get installed.

In addition, choosing the autoplay program for CDs is not straightforward, see e.g. https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/76655-how-do-i-select-autoplay-program.html

As usual, when Windows fails, independent developers come to the rescue. I am using Default Programs Editor (https://defaultprogramseditor.com/) which works like charm and has a special section for Autoplay configuration (exactly what you need).

Hope all this helps!

Didn't work, even after removing WMP.

This did correct Autoplay. Thanks. Now to fix the Context Menu, then I'm set.

As my comment seems to have been ignored, the handling is intentionally disabled because of WACUP being a Preview (i.e. a lot isn't yet complete) & file handling is just one of those aspects. Manually forcing things can & will cause issues (like things crashing unexpectedly) so please keep that in mind.

I appreciate that a suggestion has been offered that seems to help but this can also cause issues later one when WACUP does gain the native support needed (e.g. duplicate options) for file associations.

Not ignored at all. Trying to find workarounds.
